Diego Luna promises Star Wars: Andor season 2 is "really powerful," which we expect

If the second and final season of Andor is as good or better than the first, it will be the undisputed best Star Wars show yet produced.

The first season of Andor was unlike anything else fans had ever seen in a Star Wars TV show or movie: it was measured, mature, and unapologetically adult, a deep dive into the horrific bureaucracy of the Empire and how a few rebels on the outskrits had to give up their identities and humanity in order to fight back. And I have nothing against the lighter, family-friendly tone that Star Wars usually takes, but Andor felt different, which was exciting and new. There are a lot of people looking forward to seeing what the show can do with its second and final season.

That includes star Diego Luna, who plays selfish-loner-turned-rebel Cassian Andor. "I can't really tell you anything about Andor, but it's coming out. It's coming out, and it's great. The writing of Tony Gilroy is really powerful," he told Radio Times. "I can't wait for the second season to come out, but this show is teaching me to be patient, basically, like no other job."

Fans know that feeling: the season 1 finale of Andor aired in November of 2022, meaning they'll have been waiting for over two years when season 2 drops sometime in 2025. Long waits between seasons have become a constant thorn in the sides of TV fans, but Andor is the rare show that was good and bold enough in its first season that people are willing to wait for the second. Also, the fact that the second season is also the last makes things a bit more bearable, since we know we won't have to endure a long wait again. There have been other Star Wars shows released in the meantime, but nothing that quite scrates the Andor itch.

We don't have an exact release date for Andor season 2 as of yet, but hopefully one is coming along soon; that could give fans some relief, not to mention take some pressure off Luna, since people wouldn't then have to ask him about it with every interview. He was actually talking to Radio Times to promote his new Spanish-language show La Máquina, where he plays an aging boxer. La Máquina is streaming now on Hulu.
