The wait forFury Bound is finally over! Fury Bound is Sable Sorensen's sequel to Dire Bound and the second book of the Wolves of Ruin series. It officially hits the book stores and reading apps on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

It's a few months later than originally intended, but I'm sure it's well worth the wait. I just finished up Dire Bound just in time for the release of Fury Bound. I wanted to share a few important details and twists readers need to remember before starting Fury Bound.

Accordingly, there are a few spoilers ahead for Dire Bound. You have been warned!

At the end of Dire Bound, there are a lot of twists that are revealed within a matter of a few pages. It's one of the most excellent endings and set-ups for the sequel I can remember in a long time. Everything readers think they know about Meryn, Anassa, Killian, King Cyril, and the Siphons is completely upended in those last few pages.

Before diving into Fury Bound, there are a few important details you need to remember.

Meryn is the true queen of Nocturna and a descendent of the Sturmfrost queens

In the last few chapters, we learn that Meryn is not just a random person bonded by Anassa and picked to become the Stategos Alpha before her training is complete. She's actually the queen Anassa, Stark, and the rest of the direwolves have been waiting for.

You see, a long, long time ago. The Siphons infiltrated Nocturna, where they killed off the royal line and asserted themselves as the rulers. Well, Meryn's ancestor, an infant, actually escaped, thanks to a servant. For hundreds of years, they survived in the Eastern Quarter. The story was passed down in a book that the Starks, the protectors of the royal line, were never to speak about.

So, that's why Meryn was picked by Anassa. That's why Stark protected her throughout the Bonding Trials, and it's why they are still protecting her now.

When we catch up with Meryn in Fury Bound, she should be the acting queen of Nocturna, but I'm sure there's going to be a lot of PR to do with the people of her country and those she's ruling over. Plus, you still have the Siphons to worry about.

Killian is actually Alistair Brightbane, the leader of the Siphons

So, there's a lot going on with the persona changes and reveals in Dire Bound, specifically revolving around Lee. When we first meet him, Lee is believed to be Meryn's lover who works a low position for the crown. Then, when the Bonding Trials begin, we, and Meryn, learn that Lee is actually Killian, the Crown Prince, the son of King Cyril and first in line to the throne of Nocturna.

While those things are actually true, we learn shortly after Meryn cuts off King Cyril's head that Killian is actually Alistair Brightbane, the leader of the Siphons. He has the power to jump into different people, which he's been doing for 500 years since he took over Nocturna. He's also responsible for the deaths of thousands, including Meryn's mother, whom he kills to siphon her power. More on that in a minute!

Meryn's bracelet is literally stealing her power and transferring it to Killian

Remember, Meryn accepted Killian's proposal, despite Stark actually being the one looking out for her and protecting her. Killian gifts Meryn a bracelet to mark the occasion, which is not what Meryn thinks it is. Instead, it's a cursed bracelet that actually siphons Meryn's power, transferring it directly to Brightbane.

And, this is why Meryn's mother needed to die for Alistair to begin to use Meryn's immense power after she dons the Sturmfrost Crown. Now, Meryn has no way of stopping Alistair from stealing her power, which he needs, along with human blood, to stay alive and powerful.

So, a central part of Fury Bound should be Meryn's quest to find a remedy or solution to breaking this curse and ridding herself of the bracelet draining her power.

Saela has been turned into a Siphon

Last but not least, the final moments of Dire Bound end with Saela, Meryn's sister, the person who kicked off all of this when she was taken by the nabbers who be fed to King Cyril. Unfortunately, that gift that Killian/Alistair promised Meryn was that Saela has now been turned into a Siphon somehow.

At the very end of the story, Saela collapses on the floor. When she's attended to, it's revealed that she has massive fangs like a Siphon. Now, Meryn must find a way to cure her sister and restore her humanity without becoming a monster like her nemesis.

This is obviously a gut punch for Meryn. While it's great that who she is has finally been revealed, it's not exactly the greatest start to her reign as the new Queen of Nocturna.

Those are the four main things you need to remember before reading Fury Bound! Don't miss the release on Tuesday, May 5.
