With the release of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 6, HBO has capped off the first season of its new Game of Thrones spinoff in style. Over the course of the season, viewers fell head-over-heels in love with the endearing pair of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his mouthy squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). The show has given a major spike of adrenaline to the Game of Thrones franchise, drawing large viewing numbers and netting the sort of franchise-high IMDB ratings that the other Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon was never quite able to crack.
But now that the tourney at Ashford Meadow is over, the logical next question is when we'll get to see more of this series. Is this going to be another one of those big budget fantasy shows that spends multiple years between each installment? Will Dexter Sol Ansell be a weathered old man by the time we get season 3?
Fear not, for we have good news! A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 has already been greenlit by HBO, and work is already underway. We'll be back with Dunk and Egg before you know it.

What's the status of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 began filming in December 2025 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. That means that it's already several months into production! Filming on season 1 only took around three months, from mid-June 2024 to mid-September 2024, so we can expect a roughly similar timeframe for season 2.
That said, season 2 also faces some additional challenges that could make it take a little longer than the first to produce, as showrunner Ira Parker detailed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I think the scope will be same, maybe even smaller. The budget has stayed the same, but everything is more expensive due to inflation. Plus, book two takes place in a drought, so we can’t shoot exteriors in Belfast. We have to go to a sunny location with no water, which costs money — that’s a major expense that we did not have in season one. I’m having a lot of fun season two. It’s going to be a different season, and, I hope, for the better."
Parker also confirmed that season 2 will be six episodes, just like season 1.

What will A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 be about?
You may have noticed Parker mentioned a drought during season 2. The show's second outing will adapt George R.R. Martin's novella "The Sworn Sword," which sees Dunk and Egg get caught up in a land dispute over which lord owns a specific river during the height of a terrible dry season. So after dealing primarily with drama at a tourney, the duo will now be getting their hands dirty in an actual political struggle of the sort that should feel familiar to Game of Thrones veiwers, albeit on a much smaller scale.
"The Sworn Sword" also delves much deeper into the lore surrounding the Blackfyre Rebellion, a civil war which happened around 13 years before the start of the show when a bastard offshoot branch of the Targaryen family tried to claim the Iron Throne. We've even gotten hints that we may be getting flashbacks to this conflict in the future.
Who will be in the cast for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2?
While A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has not yet officially announced new cast members yet for season 2, there are some conclusions we can draw based on the source material. The first is that, obviously, Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell will return as Dunk and Egg. They're the heart of the series, and there really is no show without the two of them.
However, no other characters from season 1 are guaranteed to return. "The Sworn Sword" features an entirely new cast of characters aside from Dunk and Egg, and the show will most likely stay close to that. It's possible we could see some characters again briefly in a flashback or something, but that's only speculation. We can say with certainty that figures like Lyonel Baratheon, Maekar Targaryen, and Raymun Fossoway won't be part of the main story.
As for the new characters, we'll have our eyes peeled for any official casting announcements.

When does A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 come out?
We may not have a release month yet for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2, but we do have a year confirmed from HBO. The show will return in 2027 for its second season. HBO chief Casey Bloys emphasized in a recent interview that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is aiming to air on an "annual basis." He even soft-confirmed that the studio is planning for season 3 already! So you can breathe easy, knowing more adventures with Dunk and Egg are on the way.
We'll have our ear to the ground for more updates about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2. In the meantime, enjoy watching and re-watching the season 1 finale, and don't forget to check out our extensive coverage of the show here!
