It may be the middle of the afternoon on a Friday, but that doesn't mean that Deadline won't drop a massive, juicy interview with HBO chief Casey Bloys that melts all our brains with the sheer amount of information it contains. From updates about The Last of Us to a ton of new and intriguing info about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, House of the Dragon, and more, there is so much to pick over in this interview that I'll be processing for days. I'm getting flashbacks to that bombshell George R.R. Martin interview from a few weeks back all over again.
While there's a lot to go through, we're going to home in for right now on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the current Game of Thrones spinoff that's airing on HBO. The third episode of the show drops this weekend, and Bloys has just given us a very hopeful update for its future. Not only is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms currently filming its second season, but Bloys confirmed that the studio is planning on commiting to season 3. We're going to get all three of George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas on screen — and maybe more!

HBO is prepared for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 3
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a much smaller-scale show than either of its predecessors. Bloys emphasized that while this is a positive for the studio, it's not necessarily dictating their approach to future spinoffs.
"Firstly, and most importantly, the creative has to lead it," Bloys said. "If you think about the novellas, it’s a two-hander. It’s two unlikely friends and heroes wandering Westeros. From its inception, from the starting point, it is not warring families, it is not dragons, it is not giant battles. So the creative made sense first, and then the production follows."
"I’m not looking to change the way that we make television at all. Our business has always been a portfolio business, which means you can have shows like The Last of Us or House Of the Dragon, and you can also have smaller-scale shows like Somebody Somewhere or The Chair Company, adding things that can come back on an annual basis, like The Pitt, or adding things where the creative lends itself, in Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, I don’t want to say an easier production, but something that allows you, on a smaller scale, to produce and come back on an annual basis."
You may notice that Bloys mentioned producing A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on an "annual basis." We already knew that season 2 is slated to come out in 2027, a year after season 1; HBO announced as much in its initial renewal press release. But Bloys is thinking farther in ahead — which is good, because showrunner Ira Parker has big ambitions for the series as a whole. He's seen more than a dozen outlines for future Dunk and Egg novellas, and recently shared his pie-in-the-sky hopes for a longer series. Could A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms surpass Martin's written works the same way Game of Thrones did?
"That would be a conversation with Ira and George. Certainly possible. So we'll see," Bloys said. "They’re producing Season 2 right now, Season 3 beyond that. I haven’t really gotten into what’s possible beyond that, but if he’s got more stories, it’s certainly something to talk to Ira and George about."
So far as I know, this is the first confirmation from HBO itself that we're getting A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 3. Considering how good the first has been, that's pretty exciting!
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 is airing now on HBO and HBO Max. New episodes drop every Sunday at 10:00 p.m. EST.
