Fallout is on track to last 5 or 6 seasons

Fallout is one of several shows and movies doing what once seemed impossible: making video game adaptations look good. People loved the first season of Prime Video's darkly funny post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama, based on Bethesda's long-running series of darkly funny post-apocalyptic video games. Unfortunately, Amazon didn't know how successful the first season of the show would be, so it's taken a minute for them to get rolling on a second. But with filming on season 2 now complete, we're now that much closer to returning to the wasteland and catching up with folks like Lucy, the Ghoul and Maximus!

Maximus is a member of the Brotherhood of Steel, a kind of knightly order who tromp around in giant robot suits. He's played by Aaron Moten, who talked a little about how long the show might last during a stop at Comic Con Liverpool. "When I signed on to do the series, we would have a starting point, and they gave me the end point," Moten said, per The Gamer. "That end point hasn't changed, but it is [a] Season 5, Season 6, type of end point. We've always known that we're going to take our time with the development of the characters."

Many Fallout games have come out over the years, going all the way back to the original in 1997. Amazon could probably make the show last as long or short as they wanted. After the first season was a big success, I assume they're all too happy to commit to five or six seasons.

At the end of season 1, Maximus was named a full knight by the Brotherhood of Steel; he knows he hasn't fully earned the title in the way the Brotherhood thinks he has, but in a world as brutal as the wasteland, it's best to get ahead however you can. Meanwhile, Lucy (Ella Purnell) and the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) are traveling to New Vegas, one of the most famous and popular locations from the games. Everything is set up for Fallout season 2 to be as big or even bigger than season 1.

The first season ran in 2024, with all episodes dropping at once. Even though filming on season 2 is over, I don't expect new episodes to start airing until 2026, although after that maybe Amazon will pick up the pace. I also wouldn't be surprised if the new episodes dropped one per week instead of all at once, now that Amazon knows it has a show people will want to keep returning to. But we'll find all of that out when we find it out.
