It's good new from the Wasteland, folks. Today the official Fallout Twitter account confirmed that filming has wrapped on season 2!

"Achievement unlocked! Fallout season 2 has wrapped production," reads the post. It's accompanied by a video of Walton Goggins, who plays the wandering mutant known as The Ghoul, ripping his heavy prosthetic costume off his face and tossing it at the camera. If the show makes it to season 3, he'll need a new fitting.

When will Fallout season 2 come out?

Obviously, it's great news that Fallout has already finished up on its second season. The first premiered in April 2024, and quickly became one of Amazon's most successful original show launches ever. The second season will feature New Vegas, an iconic and beloved location from the video game series; suffice to say, fans are going to be eager to see how the show brings it to life. According to Goggins himself, season 2 is going to blow the first "out of the water." Is it any surprise we're excited?

Fallout began filming its second season in November of last year, so it took just over six months. That's a pretty quick turnaround, especially considering that it had to pause production in January because of the California wildfires. Given how fast the season filmed, does this mean we'll be watching it soon?

Maybe, but I'd still expect a lengthy post-production process. Season 1 filmed from July 2022 to February 2023, and didn't premiere until 14 months later, in April of the following year. Even if season 2 is able to trim some time off of post-production like it trimmed time off the shoot itself, I still wouldn't bank on watching it before early 2026. But I do like that the timeline seems to be condensing; hopefully if the series continues, that will only become more the case as the team responsible for creating the Wasteland gets more used to working on the series.

What will happen in Fallout season 2?

Fallout season 1 ended on a high note, with Vaultdweller Lucy (Ella Purnell) and The Ghoul coming face-to-face with none other than Lucy's father, Hank (Kyle MacLachlan), who had deep ties to the sinister corporation Vault-Tec. Lucy wanted answers, but didn't like the ones she found. The Ghoul wanted to find his family, who made it into a Vault thanks to their own relationship with the warmongering corporation. He's one step closer after confronting Lucy's father, but there's still a ways to go before he gets closure.

When last we see Hank, he's racing toward the city of New Vegas to get support from whoever's seemingly above him in the Vault-Tec food chain. Lucy and the Ghoul are hot on his trail. Meanwhile, the Brotherhood of Steel knight Maximus (Aaron Moten) is elevated to a new position of authority in the militant faction as Los Angeles' electricity flickers on for the first time in centuries. And deep underground, Lucy's brother Norm (Moisés Arias) is trapped in Vault 31, where the cryogenically frozen middle-managers of the pre-apocalypse world await their chance to wake up and experiment on the other Vaults. It was twists on twists on twists, and Fallout season 2 will have a great runway to start paying them off.

We'll be keeping an eye out for any future updates. Until then, maybe it's time for a rewatch — or to check out one of the other great video game adaptations on TV right now:
