Last week, Amazon Prime Video canceled its fantasy show The Wheel of Time, and ever since we've been in mourning. The Wheel of Time isn't the first show to get the axe in these waning days of the streaming wars, but it's certainly one of the most dispiriting. This series is based on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books, one of the most iconic fantasy stories of all time, and the show's third season proved it has the mettle to tell the full tale. The latest season was far and away the best reviewed, winning over old fans, new fans, and even many skeptics who didn't enjoy the first two seasons. For the show to end just as it reached this new height is galling.

So it should come as no surprise that fans of the series aren't simply sitting around and accepting Amazon's decision; they're fighting tooth and nail to save the show. They immediately launched a coordinated movement with a new website, SaveWOT.com, that includes multiple ways for people to get involved in the effort. Chief among them is a petition which fans can sign that has three aims: to urge Sony Pictures Television to find a new home for the series, to urge Amazon to reverse its cancelation decision, or to urge other streaming services to pick up the series. Any of those will result in more Wheel of Time.

Word is spreading fast. As of last night, the petition crossed 50,000 signatures in under four days. As of this writing, it's just crossed 58,000, with several thousand people signing off in the time it took me to pen this article. This is a great milestone for this movement to hit so quickly, and it's a testament to the passion fans have for The Wheel of Time show.

Of course, until another streamer signs off on the series, or Amazon and Sony relize the error of their ways, the movement continues. The Last Battle is not fought and won in a day, and neither is this effort to save The Wheel of Time on television. If you'd like to get involved, your first port of call should be to head over to SaveWOT.com and sign the petition. But there are a number of other ways to help out too, including:

  • Uploading a short video sharing your love for The Wheel of Time and why it deserves to finish its story, which will be shared publicly as well as with key stakeholders of the series.
  • Social media blitzes utilizing the #SaveWoT hashtag. These happen weekly across social platforms, and serve as a way to bring the fandom together "around topics like favorite episodes, cast moments, emotional arcs, and hopes for the future."
  • Write open fan letters to the cast and crew, telling them what the show has meant to you.
  • Boost news coverage about the show's cancelation and the efforts to save it. The more noise there is about The Wheel of Time right now, the better its chances!

“Sony helped bring this world to life,” one organizer shared. “Now, we’re asking them to help finish it — not just for us, but for the people who created something extraordinary.”

The fight to save The Wheel of Time continues. Here's hoping the show beats the odds and is able to return to finish out the story.
