If you just watched Episode 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and want to know what happens next, you're in luck, as HBO released a brand new trailer that not only shows next week's episode, but reveals the entire plot of the series. This latest Game of Thrones spinoff, starring Peter Claffey and
Dexter Sol Ansell, will only have six episodes due to the short length of the source material. But according to fans, the trailer spoiled the whole plot, thus ruining the series.
HBO released its "Weeks Ahead Trailer" for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, showcasing what's to come in the later episodes. However, unlike House of the Dragon, which teased what's to come and offered only vague quotes from prophecies and conflicts, this latest preview gave away the whole plot without revealing any major twists or outcomes. Fans on social media noticed this, especially those who had read the novellas and were surprised by how much HBO revealed in two and a half minutes.
As of this writing, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has received praise from fans and critics alike, generating an 88% critics' score and a 78% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which puts the show between Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon in terms of critic ratings.
What happened during Episode 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
Based on George R.R. Martin's novella "The Hedge Knight," A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows Dunk, a hedge knight and the previous squire of his late mentor, Ser Arlan of Pennytree, who travels to Ashford to compete in an upcoming tournament. On his journey, he meets Egg, a young boy who manages to persuade Dunk to let him be his squire.
In Episode 1, also titled "The Hedge Knight," Dunk's reputation as a hedge knight is mocked by others in Ashford due to the lack of nobility. In addition, due to his lack of status, Dunk is tasked to find someone who can vouch for him before he can participate. And even if Dunk does compete, people immediately assume that he has no chance of winning the tournament.
The first episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms immediately painted the picture of how it would differ from other Game of Thrones installments. It's no hero story. Instead, it tells the tale of a normal man who wants to make an impact as a knight while also following his morals.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is available to stream on HBO Max, with new episodes releasing every Sunday on HBO.
