Kit Harington just made a huge revelation about the final season of Game of Thrones that may shock fans.

In an interview with the outlet Mr. Porter, Harington, who starred as Jon Snow for all eight seasons of the hit HBO series, revealed that he has yet to watch the final season of the series and may not be able to for good reason.

Kit Harington reveals why he never watched Game of Thrones season 8

Here's what Harington told Mr. Porter about why he hasn't seen the final episodes of Game of Thrones yet.

“Yes, I still haven’t watched the final season. I have really odd feelings about it because I wasn’t very well. I was in rehab when the final episode aired, so I missed it, and then I came out of rehab and had other things on my mind. And then I actually think I look rather unwell in that final season. I’m not well. I’m struggling with alcohol at that point. But I’m quite proud of the work I was doing.”

As many fans who have followed his career know, Harington has been open about his addiction. It was compounded by the rush of international fame thanks to playing Jon and the actor acknowledges he wasn’t quite prepared for it at such a young age.

It's no surprise Harington may not want to watch that season, as it’s a reminder of a very dark period in his life. In the past, he’s spoken about the risk of relapses and triggers, including his Industry role as an addict. It’s not so much the quality of the final season that’s keeping Harington away as much as what was happening in his life when the show's final season aired.

Of course, Game of Thrones wasn't all a bad experience for Harington. After all, the show introduced him to Rose Leslie, who played Jon’s flame, Ygritte. The chemistry passed into real life as Harington and Leslie have been married since 2018. In the Mr. Porter feature, Harington credits becoming a husband and father with helping inspire him to shape up.

Harington had been attached to a possible spinoff focused on Jon Snow taking place after Game of Thrones’ finale. That appears to have fallen through, and he seems content leaving that part behind him.

Game of Thrones fans know all about the ups and downs of Jon Snow, including being killed off and brought back. There’s also the seemingly endless debate regarding the show’s controversial final season. It’s good to see Harington not dragged into the messy debate about the final season.

Harington has kept himself busy in the last few years. He had a shot at the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dane Whitman in Eternals, which was going to set up a run as the Black Knight. Like many MCU story threads, that’s now in limbo.

As mentioned, Harington currently has a top role in HBO’s steamy financial drama Industry, which has won rave reviews. But to millions of fans, he’ll forever be Jon Snow, the bastard son on Game of Thrones who’s revealed to be the true heir to the Iron Throne.

Harington is also set to star in The Dreadful alongside Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner. The film premieres on Feb. 20, 2026.
