We have some bad news to share with fans of one of George R.R. Martin's favorite historical dramas, The Last Kingdom.
According to a report from What's on Netflix, The Last Kingdom is in danger of leaving Netflix in 2026, along with a bunch of other licensed TV shows, including some Netflix originals.
As of right now, it looks like the last day to watch The Last Kingdom on Netflix could be Dec. 9, 2026. That's when Netflix's rights to the series will expire, so you have just under a year to watch all five seasons of the series on Netflix.
Of course, there's always a chance that Netflix could renew the licensing rights to the series. After all that Netflix invested in the series, and benefitted from the series, you'd think the platform would still be interested in streaming one of the best historical dramas of all time.

The Last Kingdom is based on Bernard Cornwell's The Saxon Stories book series. It premiered on BBC in 2015 and ran for two season until Netflix stepped in to take over the series for the third, fourth, and fifth seasons. Those third and fourth seasons are the real high point of the show, in my opinion, thanks to Netflix.
The series tells the story of Uhtred, played by Alexander Dreymon. Set in the ninth century, Uhtred finds himself caught between two worlds, the Saxons, who he is by blood, and the Danes, who he was raised by. Uhtred uses his unique perspective to carve out a life in what would become England.
All five seasons of The Last Kingdom are streaming on Netflix right now, along with The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die, the standalone movie that acts as the official conclusion to Uhtred's story. The series officially came to an end on April 14, 2023, so it hasn't really been that long since the story came to an end.
There's no doubt that The Last Kingdom is one of the best historical dramas of all time. Like Martin, fans who enjoy Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, The Wheel of Time, and other fantasy shows all happen to love The Last Kingdom, too, although it's not quite as good. While there aren't many fantasy elements, there are some epic battle sequences, fights, and quests that are simply too good to pass up.
If you haven't watched The Last Kingdom on Netflix, I can't recommend it enough! I loved Uhtred's adventure, and I wish Netflix was still finding a way to tell these stories.
We'll continue to share updates about the series remaining on Netflix as we learn more! Stay tuned for more updates about the future of The Last Kingdom on Netflix. And, if anything, use this as a reminder to rewatch the hit series.
