The most impressive campaign to save an unjustly cancelled TV show in history continues.

It's been over a month since Amazon announced it was cancelling The Wheel of Time after the show's excellent third season, and the fans have been working furiously ever since trying to either get Amazon to reverse course or to find the show a new home. They've put up billboards in cities all around the world, organized letter writing campaigns and set up a petition that is now pushing 200,000 signatures. I haven't seen a fan effort this organized and dedicated in a while, but I get it: The Wheel of Time show is based on the beloved series of fantasy books by Robert Jordan and was getting better with each season; if the show isn't revived, it will probably be a long time before anyone touches this material again, and I fully support everything the fans are doing.

And some of what they're doing is very impressive. For instance, they recently erected a giant billboard in Culver City, CA, a major movie-making hub which studio executives, producers, actors and more drive through and around every day. Hopefully, the billboard will give the right someone the right idea:

Culver City is almost completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; there are several movie studios within its borders, including one built by Amazon MGM Studios. As usual, The Wheel of Time fans have picked their targets and spent their funds very well.

Does this mean the effort to save The Wheel of Time will actually succeed? Well, if it does, I think it will be largely thanks to these fans. If I were an executive at some studio and I saw how hard people were working to save the show, I would think that there's a market of untapped enthusiasm that I could turn into a long-running franchise. And I hope some executive sees these efforts and does think that...but I think I'm at the point where I'm willing to say goodbye to the show, since the cast and crew seem to be laying down their arms. Rosamund Pike, who plays the Aes Sedai sorceress Moiraine, recently made what amounted to a farewell post. That hit hard, since she's always been in the front of the show.

Of course, that doesn't mean the fans should stop working; their efforts are plenty inspirational on their own merits. And if by some miracle The Wheel of Time does get to continue, season 4 should be dedicated to them.
