The third season of House of the Dragon is being shot as we speak. But later this year, the second will get a chance to strut its stuff on stage at the 77th Emmy Awards, or at least that's what HBO hopes. According to Gold Derby, the network has submitted House of the Dragon for a total of 40 potential awards.

Obviously, it's submitted the show for Best Drama Series, the top award of the night. It's submitted 10 actors for consideration. Emma D'Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen) is the only actor they've put forward for one of the lead categories. Seven others have been submitted in supporting actor categories: Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon Targaryen), Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen), Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon), Fabien Frankel (Criston Cole), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower) and Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen). And then there's Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower) and Paddy Considine (Viserys Targaryen) who have submitted in the Best Guest Actor category.

I agree that Emma D'Arcy is probably the most prominent actor on the show, but I think they could have gotten away with submitting Matt Smith or Olivia Cooke in Lead Actor categories considering how they changed the source material to focus on their characters. For my money, I'd love to see D'Arcy win for Best Actress in a Drama Series and for Tom Glynn-Carney to win Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series; his performance as the tortured King Aegon was a highlight of the season for me.

HBO has submitted the show for lots of other categories, including directing, writing, visual effects, cinematography, editing and more. The episode with the most submissions attached to it is "The Red Dragon and the Gold," the one where Aegon, Aemond and Rhaenys fought on their dragons high above the castle of Rook's Rest. I don't think many would dispute that this was the high point of the season, so I'm not surprised to see it well-represented.
