HBO tried to get Milly Alcock an acting coach her second day on House of the Dragon

Milly Alcock was a smash as Young Rhaenyra Targaryen on House of the Dragon, but someone "high up" at HBO didn't think so.

The first season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon did a lot for its cast members. Emma D'Arcy, who plays the adult Rhaenyra Targaryen, became a bit of a cult figure. Paddy Considine, who played Rhaenyra's father King Viserys, got to play the role of his career. And Milly Alcock, who played Young Rhaenyra, was set on the road to superstardom. She's starring in a new Netflix series dropping tomorrow and will play Supergirl in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow next year.

Going on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for her first-ever talk show appearance, Alcock recalled what it was like joining a huge show like House of the Dragon right at the early stages. "It was very, very terrifying and it kind of changed my life. It was super fun!" she said. However, she experienced a humbling moment early on. “On my second day on House of the Dragon, one of the — I’m not gonna say who, but someone very high up — pulled me aside and was like, ‘Um, we’re gonna get you an acting coach,’” Alcock recalled. “It just confirmed everything that I’ve kind of known to be true, [which] is that I’m not very good at my job,”

Alcock confirmed that she was just joking about that one. "You know what I mean! I was like, ‘I can’t do this. This is terrible. This is a big mistake.’” Obviously Alcock pushed through. She was nominated for a few awards for her performance, including the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

The show itself actually won a Golden Globe for Best Drama Television Series. Alcock went up to accept the award alongside Emmy D'Arcy and then-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik. That acceptance speech went viral, because she looked pretty slap-happy and out of it.

"I enjoyed the free champagne, clearly," Alcock quipped. "I didn't think we were gonna win. I didn't know I had to get up! No one told me that I had to get up. Why would I get up? But I did."

"It's so terrifying. You look around the room, and I'm like, 'That's Rihanna. That's Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie and Rihanna and what is going on, where am I right now? So I was trying to find my agent and I just kinda started laughing. And that was it and became a whole thing."

If she ever gets on stage to accept an award again, I want her to be stone-cold sober or even more visibly drunk, nothing in between.

Milly Alcock is "very excited" for people to see Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

Alcock also touched on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. She revealed as much as she could, which is nothing: "We can say that I am Supergirl."

Alcock said slightly more during a recent interview with dcfilmgirl. She confirmed that she's done filming the movie, and said that she's "very excited for everyone to meet Kara."

That would be Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. "I'm very, very excited. I think it's actually going to be a very good movie. It's my first film," she said, per Wion.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled to come out on June 26, 2026. However, it's likely that Alcock will show up as Supergirl for a cameo appearance in Superman, which lands in theaters on July 11 of this year. If all goes well, she'll be an integral part of the new DC Cinematic Universe. And if you want to see her right away, Sirens — a black comedy series where Alcock plays an assistant to a billionaire played by Julianne Moore — drops tomorrow, May 22, on Netflix.
