It's a great time to be a Game of Thrones fan, and not just because the year is almost over and we're one step close to getting brand-new spinoff seasons in 2026. Thankfully, after watching House of the Dragon season 3 and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms next year, we don't have to worry about their fates. HBO already revealed early renewals for both spinoff series!
On Nov. 20, HBO sure gave Game of Thrones fans something to be thankful for with the renewal of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2. The confirmation of a second season comes ahead of the show's debut in January 2026. In addition to the upcoming spinoff's early renewal, HBO also at along lost announced House of the Dragon will officially be back for season 4.
Ryan Condal, the showrunner of House of the Dragon, had previously revealed that the series was set to come to an end with its fourth season, but HBO hadn't yet made the renewal announcement. Finally, we don't have to wonder what's happening with the fan-favorite spinoff. Both shows have been renewed, and we also have release date teases straight from the network.

House of the Dragon season 4 and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 get renewals and release windows from HBO
HBO's announcement came with the reveal that there will be a new season of a Game of Thrones series set for release every year for the next three years. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms kicks things off with its premiere on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026 and House of the Dragon season 3 following closely behind with its premiere in summer 2026.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 has been slated for a premiere sometime in 2027, and House of the Dragon season 4 will arrive in 2028. From there, your guess is as good as ours for what's next in the Game of Thrones franchise. While we're expecting House of the Dragon to end with season 4, it's curious that HBO's press release makes no mention of a final season.
That doesn't necessarily mean that the series won't still end with season 4, but it's interesting that HBO didn't make that announcement upfront given how much information the network did provide about both renewals. Maybe there's a possibility that House of the Dragon could continue past season 4, but HBO seems inclined to make that reveal at a later date.
Earlier this summer, reports suggested that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 would begin filming in March 2026 and film back-to-back with season 3. Obviously, HBO didn't announce the renewal of season 3 just yet, but the possibility that even more news could be on the way is exciting. Something to look forward to alongside the big premieres in 2026.
