We've been receiving a lot of exciting news lately about the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. While the fantasy drama isn't set to start airing on HBO until sometime early next year, there are rumors going around that the show has already been renewed for a second and third season. But that's not all! These two installments will reportedly be filmed back-to-back, with production on the second season rumored to start in late March 2026 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
We've learned of this rumored filming start date from a Game of Thrones fan page on X. The fan page cited Production List as their source, which is a trusted industry source that tracks upcoming film and TV projects.

However, this information hasn’t been officially confirmed by HBO or the show’s producers, so fans should treat it as a rumor rather than a guaranteed schedule. The same goes for the show's renewal. HBO hasn't officially announced whether A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms seasons 2 and 3 are a done deal.
However, it seems that at least a second season could indeed be in the works, as series co-creator George R. R. Martin previously mentioned in an interview that he and the show’s creative team were already developing a follow-up installment. HBO executive Francesca Orsi had also hinted in a past interview that the network was already envisioning a three-season plan for the prequel. So even though we don't have an official confirmation just yet, these comments from key figures behind the show give fans plenty of reason to be optimistic about a second and third season.
Fans needed this A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 filming update
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 was originally supposed to start airing on HBO in late 2025. CEO and President of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, had announced this news in an earnings call in 2024. However, the release window then shifted to early 2026 for unknown reasons in 2025. Of course, this delay disappointed fans who were looking forward to experiencing the next chapter in the Game of Thrones universe this year. They were already unhappy to find out that the first season would only consist of six episodes, so this just made matters worse.
Then, fans were further disappointed when rumors began circulating that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms seasons 2 and 3 would also be made up of six episodes each. It just seemed like bad news after bad news. That's why this season 2 production update couldn't come at a better time, finally giving fans something positive to hold onto.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a television series adaptation of Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. The first season adapts the first novella, The Hedge Knight, and will follow the adventures of the young hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his unlikely squire, Egg. Peter Claffey plays the role of Ser Duncan the Tall, while Dexter Sol Ansell stars as Egg. If there is to be a second season, it will adapt the second novella, The Sworn Sword. Last but not least, a third season would be based on the third novella, The Mystery Knight.
