House of the Dragon changes location of King's Landing set for season 3

HBO will no longer film King's Landing scenes in the city of Cáceres, Spain. Instead, they're building the place themselves.

HBO is filming the third season of its Game of Thrones prequel show House of the Dragon as we speak. We're getting lots of pics from the set, including images of the King's Landing set being built at Leavesden Studios in England. This one looks like the Grand Sept:

We've visited this area on the show before, but in past seasons, HBO actually traveled to the city of Cáceres, Spain and used the local architecture to stand in for the Great Sept and other buildings in King's Landing. Cáceres stood in for King's Landing on Game of Thrones, as well. For whatever reason, HBO has chosen to build sets this time around; fansite Los Siete Reinos confirms that the show won't return to Cáceres for season 3.

That doesn't mean they won't be filming on location at all. According to @housethedragons, which is a great resource for filming news about the show, they'll film some external shots for King's Landing in Wales and elsewhere in England. But I'm sorry the fans in Cáceres won't be able to see the show filming on their doorstep anymore. Maybe in season 4.

House of the Dragon stars post pics from season 3 set

Meanwhile, cast members continue to post pictures of themselves on set. Abubakar Salim, who plays Corlys Velaryon's bastard son Alyn of Hull, posted an image of himself in full armor:

"Fighting is tough." I can imagine. Alyn of Hull will be involved in a major action sequence we'll see very early in the season: the Battle of the Gullet, which will be fought on sea between rival navies. Let's hope he doesn't fall overboard in that armor.

And then there's Gayle Rankin, who was introduced as the mysterious Alys Rivers in season 2. Rankin posted a quick photo of herself near her trailer, which doesn't give much away but is still fun:

Alys Rivers lives at the crumbling castle of Harrenhal, where Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) spent a lot of time in season 2. Without giving too much away, that's not the last we'll see of the haunted ruin.

Filming will continue for a while yet. Hopefully, House of the Dragon season 3 will premiere on HBO and Max at a reasonable time next year, although I'm now a little nervous about that:
