House of the Dragon season 3 to release new trailer on Monday — But will it confirm a release date?

HBO spoiled fans at CCXP's House of the Dragon panel with cast member appearances and an early look at a new trailer for season 3. The rest of us get to watch it on Monday.

We're less than two months from the release of House of the Dragon season 3, and its marketing machine is about to kick into high gear. According to the show's official X account, a brand new teaser trailer for the series is set to be released on Monday, April 27.

This news dropped at CCXP, a large fan convention that takes place in several major cities around the world each year. House of the Dragon has delivered big announcements in the past at CCXP, and at this year's Mexico City convention it kept the trend going strong. Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), and Fabien Frankel (Criston Cole) were all on hand for a House of the Dragon panel on April 25, where the studio unveiled the brand new trailer. Those lucky enough to be in attendance were treated to glimpses of Aemond Targaryen (Ewan MItchell) decked out in armor, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) and Daemon Targaryen on the warpath, Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) making plans for revenge and more. For the rest of us, we must ride out the weekend with scattered social media descriptions and wait until Monday to watch with our own eyes.

When does House of the Dragon season 3 come out?

First and foremost, it is extremely exciting that we have confirmation that a new trailer for House of the Dragon season 3 exists, and that we'll be able to watch it and nerd out about it soon enough. The last trailer came out all the way back in mid-February, and the show's premiere month of June is fast approaching. The series needs to get some new material out there to entice fans, and it needs to do it sooner rather than later.

We now know that the new material is coming in the form of this trailer. I'd also expect new official images or posters to come along with it. And of course, we need the House of the Dragon season 3 release date. Even if the show premiered on the very last Sunday of June, we're still barely two months out. If it's earlier in the month, even less.

Personally, I'm banking on its first episode dropping on June 7, which is the first Sunday after the current season of HBO's hit show Euphoria ends. The network will want something big to fill Euphoria's time slot and keep viewers tuning in, and House of the Dragon is its next release on the docket. But even if it's later in the month, we're still close enough that it's strange to not have a solid date on the calendar.

So while the release date was not attached to the trailer shown at CCXP, I'd be surprised if it isn't revealed during the official trailer launch on Monday.

House of the Dragon season 3 will finally unleash civil war on Westeros

As for what we can expect in season 3, Smith, Cooke, and Frankel gave plenty of tantalizing teases to the crowd during the House of the Dragon panel. "There’s going to be a lot of war, a lot of battle," said Frankel.

“This season is bigger, bolder, bloodier, more brutal, and more dangerous," said Smith, later adding that, “There’s going to be a lot of dragons, in particular Caraxes…” Given that major clashes like the Battle of the Gullet and war throughout the Riverlands are on the way, it's easy to believe him.

Perhaps the most ominous words came from Olivia Cooke: "Some teams would rather burn everything down to the ground than lose.” That certainly sounds like it fits the bill for her vicious son, Aemond Targaryen. Then again, we're expecting a pretty dark arc for Rhaenyra Targaryen as well, so there are contenders among both the Green and Blacks.
