If you're starting to feel bittersweet about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms concluding its first season, HBO isn't wasting a second to get fans excited about the imminent return of House of the Dragon this summer. It won't be long until we're back in Westeros for another epic round of can't-miss Sunday nights spent analyzing each and every frame. And that starts now!
After releasing a new promo poster for season 3 and revealing the release month as June 2026, HBO unveiled the first official House of the Dragon season 3 teaser trailer on Thursday, Feb. 19, and it's definitely going to be a day we'll remember. We've been counting down the days until a trailer was placed into our hands, and now it's here!
In the opening moments of the chilling teaser, Alicent walks toward Aemond on the throne, and that visual sets the tone for what follows in the clip. Beyond the questions of who can trust who on either side, the teaser previews the "new dawn" and "new line of unsullied kings" and gives us a first look at new characters, including James Norton as Ormund Hightower.
Perhaps the most intriguing to fans is the advanced look at the epic battles set to erupt in House of the Dragon season 3. We get some quick looks at these deadly battles, that look bigger and even more immersive than any we've seen before. Every single clip leads to Rhaenyra crying while Daemon says in voiceover, "This is the moment you become queen." See, chilling!
The new season had already been expected to tackle the shift in control of the Iron Throne, as the civil war for the throne gets deadlier than we've seen yet in the prequel series. There are iconic battles from the books coming this season, and we can also look forward to Rhaenyra gaining power over King's Landing. Maintaining that power? That's another story to be told in season 3.
Before HBO announced that House of the Dragon season 3 would make its premiere in June, director Loni Peristere teased that the new season would be "coming up sooner than we think, but not soon enough." Ultimately, Peristere was correct that it's coming soon, though we still have a fair amount of waiting to do. At least we won't be waiting until August like Matt Smith once said.
As if the season 3 teaser trailer doesn't have us excited enough to devour the new episodes this summer, we also have the fourth and final season to look forward to. HBO's boss confirmed that House of the Dragon is currently set to end with season 4, but that's still too far into the future to concern ourselves with, especially when a new era of Rhaenyra begins in June!
