This past weekend, Emma D'Arcy attended the 82nd annuall Golden Globe Awards, where they were nominated for Best Female Actor for their performance as Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon. They didn't win, but you don't get the idea that bothers them at all since they're having such a great time.
First of all, there's the crazy, ruffly shirt D'Arcy is wearing, which they say is giving child music prodigy vibes. And then there's all the celebrities D'Arcy got to meet! "So many famous people here, it's f**king crazy," they said on the red carpet. "I just met Ayo Edebiri, I just met Cynthia Erivo, people I've wanted to meet for such a long time. I just saw Harrison Ford; it's like totally insane!"
And if you want video proof of those encounters, it exists! Here's D'Arcy posing for photos with The Bear star Ayo Edebiri and Cynthia Erivo, whose profile has risen considerably this year after she played Elphaba in the Wicked movie:
There's no proof that D'Arcy actually saw Harrison Ford, but we'll take their word on that. To House of the Dragon fans, D'Arcy is a celebrity onto themselves, but we should remember that they're still new to this wider stage. It's endearing to see them geeking out about meeting celebrities like anyone else would.
D'Arcy wasn't the only House of the Dragon cast member to show up at this year's ceremony. Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays Rhaenyra's half-brother Aegon Targaryen, was also there to support his castmate. He looked nearly as distinctive, and I liked some of the commentary about these two flying around online:
D'Arcy, Glynn-Carney, and the rest of the sizable House of the Dragon will return when HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series continues with its third season sometime in 2026. Yes, we have a while to wait. But before that, HBO will be debuting a whole new Game of Thrones prequel show called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will premiere sometime this year. Hopefully that will help bridge the gap.
