If you're a '90s kid like me, the idea of a proper Power Rangers reboot is beyond exciting. I know there have been reiterations of it over the years, but nothing has quite hit home like the original. And it looks like Disney+ is looking to breathe some life back into the classic franchise, with Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz at the helm. Disney+ just renewed the Percy Jackson show for a third season, so their stock is rising.

According to The Wrap, Hasbro is the one producing the series. They already attempted to revive Power Rangers back in 2018, following rather disastrous set of movies that did not do justice to the beloved franchise. Now don't get me wrong, Bryan Cranston as Zordon sounded amazing, but even Walter White couldn't up the ante on the movies. It was just...bad.

But there may be better days ahead if Disney+ is indeed looking to bring in the Percy Jackson showrunners to give this another go. We can all hope.

What would the Power Rangers reboot be like?

That's tough to say, because 1) we don't know the creative direction the showrunners would want to take, and; 2) it's unclear which generation they would be trying to reach. If you are trying to reach fellow '90s kids, then keeping that original style from then would be the way to go. There was this vibe to it akin to old samurai movies that ran through every episode, but the reiterations since then have been missing that. If this franchise is to be reinvented, we'd need more of that.

It could be a while before this idea gets off the ground, since the Percy Jackson showrunners already have a very successful series to manage. If they are to sign on, as a '90s kid, I plead with them to only do so if they can bring the life and vibe of the '90s Power Rangers to life in the 2020s. If they can't, please pass it along, because after those awful movies and the various attempts at reboots, we need a team that can give it their all!
