Invincible season 3 continues to prove why the show is one of the finest superhero series out there. It's brilliant, brutal, and actually much more heartfelt than we imagined. You can check out our spoiler-free review of the new season here. But now, we're looking ahead to the show's future, which is likely to continue for many years to come!
Invincible creator Robert Kirkman has previously stated that the show could run for upwards of eight seasons. I'd imagine this number is pretty accurate, as the comics are fully completed. It's easier to form a timeline when the fully finished source material is in front of you. Moreover, the production has been hugely streamlined. The wait between seasons 2 and 3 was much, much shorter than the gruelling wait between seasons 1 to 2.
Despite season 3 still airing on Prime Video, it appears that the team behind the show is already working on season 4. Speaking to Collider, star J.K. Simmons (Omni-Man) revealed that his work is tentatively underway. "Yeah, we actually have, dipped our toes," he teased. "Or at least I have into the next season. And I'm looking forward to... I don't know when in the next coming months, but looking forward to getting back in the studio again."
Discussing his experience working on season 3, Simmons shared the joys of getting to share scenes with Allen the Alien, voiced by Seth Rogen. In season 3, Omni-Man is a prisoner alongside Allen on a Viltrumite spaceship, far, far away from Earth. Their story is running separately from everything else going on.
"Well, it's unexpected, I hope," Simmons said. "And I'm always loath to even get close to any spoilers, but I loved the whole season, the whole third season and, exploring the relationship between Omni-Man and Allen the Alien that, you know, based on the first two seasons, you know, there was a continuing surprise to me. And also getting to play scenes with Seth Rogen was, you know, even though we were never in the room at the same time, I did get to respond to what Seth had already laid down a few times."
Without spoiling anything, fans of the comic will know that Omni-Man is heavily involved in the story to come. Simmons certainly has his work cut-out. And we are here for it.

Robert Kirkman is desperate for Bryan Cranston to join Invincible
With every season of Invincible that passes, the cast gets more stacked. For season 3, the show cast two beloved Breaking Bad stars: Aaron Paul (Powerplex) and Jonathan Banks (Conquest). However, there's one Breaking Bad alum that keeps evading them, although it isn't for the lack of trying. Yes, I'm talking about Walter White himself, Bryan Cranston. According to Kirkman, the Invincible team has reached out to Cranston several times, and they're continually declined.
"As far as dream casting goes, I think we offer Bryan Cranston a role every season," Kirkman told Discussing Film. "That has become our tradition, and his tradition is that he turns us down. But we’re coming for you again, Bryan, and we’ll see what happens next time. Fingers crossed! Literally, Bryan Cranston is the only actor that has turned us down.”
