Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa has officially been tapped to play Lobo, a DC antihero who rides a motorcycle through outer space hunting down bounties, in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Deadline confirms. Momoa shared the news himself on his Instagram, posting an image of an old interview he did where he talked about how excited he'd be to play Lobo if someone ever called and offered him the role. "They called," he wrote.

“I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,'” the actor said a while back. It does indeed seem like a good fit. Lobo is an aggressive wild man with long dark hair and a rock star attitude. You put a few prosthetics on Momoa and he's basically there.

Momoa will star alongside Milly Alcock, who will play Supergirl. Alcock starred as Young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, so this may be as close as fans get to a crossover event.

The Supergirl movie is due to come out in theaters in June of 2026, although we expect Alcock to turn up as Supergirl in a new Superman movie that's coming out in July of 2025, almost a year earlier. What she'll be doing in her own solo movie, or how Lobo factors in, remains a mystery.

Lobo is the second DC character Momoa will play on the big screen. He previously played Aquaman in two solo movies, both of which were hits; the first movie made over a billion dollars. But that was in a wholly different DC Cinematic Universe; after a string of failures, the studio is resetting things with Superman, and that means casting Momoa in a new role and, we assume, casting someone else as Aquaman, although we haven't heard any details about that as of yet.

Hopefully things won't get too confusing up there when Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow hits theaters on June 26, 2026.
