We're less than a month out from the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3, and it's time for the excitement to start building. Earlier this week Prime Video unveiled three new posters to drum up some hype, which highlighted Sauron and his cabal of villains. Now the studio has flipped the script, unleashing another spate of posters to reveal some of the heroes who will stand against them. They come with the confirmation that a new trailer is dropping tomorrow, October 21.

Like the villain-centric posters, these new pieces of key art feature returning characters as well as someone new. Five years have passed since the Fall of Eregion in The Rings of Power's season 2 finale, and things have changed for heroes like Galadriel (Morfydd Clark). She's been front and center on this series since the start, so it's no surprise that she features in the first poster Prime Video released...along with a newcomer to the series who will totally reorient her world:

The lovers reunited

If you're wondering "who the hell is that hugging Galadriel," that's pretty fair! While Galadriel has mostly had an uncomfortable bit of romantic tension with Sauron himself in The Rings of Power, season 3 will see things take a turn back toward J.R.R. Tolkien's book canon. The blond elf holding her is Celeborn, her long lost husband played by Jamie Campbell Bower (Vecna from Stranger Things), who has been mentioned a scant handful of times in the show.

The X post caption for this poster reads "Love endures for ages." And it'd have to in order to sell this new romance convincingly for viewers, since Celeborn was weirdly absent for the entirety of the show's run so far. Where was he? How has the time apart changed him and Galadriel? The Rings of Power season 3 will need to answer these questions and more to build a satisfying arc for these two.

The Stranger reborn

Our next poster features the Stranger, played by Daniel Weyman. This mysterious wizard wandered the world of Middle-earth with the Harfoots throughout the first two seasons of the series, all in the hope of recovering his memory enough to figure out who he was before he plummeted out of the sky. The end of season 2 seemed to confirm that he's exactly who we thought: Gandalf.

With all the back and forth about the Stranger's identity behind us, and Sauron waging war on Middle-earth, the wizard will hopefully play a more central role in the drama this time around. His powers would certainly be useful for the forces of good to prevail against Sauron.
