George R.R. Martin isn’t done conquering your watchlist just yet. The creative mastermind who brought us fire-breathing dragons, ill-fated romances, and jaw-dropping TV moments with Game of Thrones has an addictive side project that has been making waves ever since its premiere on AMC in 2022.
While he didn't necessarily create this show, Martin has been signed on as an executive producer since its very beginning. We're talking about the popular AMC thriller series Dark Winds. A brand-new season of the show is slated to be released on Netflix very soon! The streaming giant confirmed this with the release of its complete list of upcoming additions for next month.
Dark Winds season 3 is coming to Netflix in October 2025
The third season of Dark Winds is scheduled to make its way to Netflix on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025. It's unknown what time all eight episodes will drop, but there's a possibility it could happen at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET. That's the usual time that Netflix releases new content on its platform. While the release time might not be set in stone, the release date is confirmed, giving fans something to mark on their calendars.
Dark Winds first came to Netflix back in August 2024. The first and second seasons were released on the streaming platform on Aug. 19, 2024, as part of a deal between AMC and Netflix to bring a selection of the network’s most popular series to the streamer. However, the licensing agreement was supposed to be for only a year. That means both seasons should have departed in August of this year. Since they're still currently streaming on Netflix, it appears the deal was extended. AMC and Netflix likely reworked the deal so that Dark Winds season 3 could arrive on the platform as well.
What's on Netflix reports that the entire thriller series will continue to be available for streaming on Netflix until July 2028. However, this is just a rumor. Neither Netflix nor AMC has confirmed this. That said, we'll have to take this news with a grain of salt.
Graham Roland created Dark Winds. Based on Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee novels, the series takes place in the '70s and follows Navajo Tribal Police officers Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, and Bernadette Manuelito as they investigate and crack complex crimes on the Navajo Nation. Zahn McClarnon stars as Joe, Kiowa Gordon takes on the role of Jim, and Jessica Matten as Bernadette.
Also in the cast are Deanna Allison, Rainn Wilson, Elva Guerra, Jeremiah Bitsui, Eugene Brave Rock, Noah Emmerich, Nicholas Logan, and many others.
Dark Winds season 3 takes place six months after what happened in the second season. Joe and Jim are once again drawn into a tense investigation when two boys go missing. Meanwhile, Bernadette, now working far away from home with the Border Patrol, uncovers a dangerous conspiracy involving human and drug smuggling.

Dark Winds was renewed for a fourth season in February 2025. It's expected to start airing on AMC sometime in 2026. It's currently unknown whether this installment will eventually be made available on Netflix, but we will update you if this ever happens.
