Avatar: The Last Airbender is a show that has stood the test of time, as beloved today as it was when it aired on Nickelodeon back in the 2000s. The first season of Netflix's live-action remake wasn't received quite as warmly, but the cast and crew put on a good show, and it was fun seeing those classic episodes presented in a new way.

And it was good enough that Netflix renewed the show for two more seasons, which will allow executive producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani to tell the story in full; there are also three seasons of the original show. “We’re looking forward to working with all of our actors again and digging into the deeper, more complicated relationships that develop as their journey continues in Season 2,” Boylan and Raisani told Tudum. “We are going to show the real-world versions of iconic scenes from the original, and explore some of the stories that the animation didn’t. Mainly, we’re looking forward to seeing our gang all together again.”

Yes, Netflix has officially begun production on season 2, which means they're getting into some of the best episodes from the original series. “There’s no war in Ba Sing Se,” Boylan and Raisani said, quoting a line from the source show. “For the Gaang, fans can expect more brilliant plans from Sokka, even more masterful bending from Katara, Appa, and Momo to be as fluffy as ever, and Aang to learn a new bending form (or two).”

"We’re going to challenge our characters with more complex and nuanced obstacles as they navigate a more tactile world. Just as the animated series matured and progressed, the live-action will also take these characters and worlds and grow them."

There's a lot of stuff fans will be looking out for in the new season. Azula (Elizabeth Yu) will directly interact with Aang and his friends; she's a fearsome antagonist in the original show so she better bring the fire here. There's a great storyline involving the city of Ba Sing Se, whose people are shielded from the war by a veil of propaganda. Episodes like "Zuko Alone," "The Tales of Ba Sing Se," and "The Crossroads of Destiny" are all-timers. If the remake fumbles this new season, there may be no coming back. If it steps up its game, it will make a lot of fans very, very happy.
