Despite appearing in every season of The Walking Dead and being one of the franchise's most important characters, fans have never seen Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) kiss anyone. However, the latest episode of Daryl Dixon season 2 featured the monumental moment: Daryl and Isabelle (Clémence Poésy) shared an intimate kiss in the final moments.

Daryl and Isabelle found each other in post-apocalyptic France. They were brought together by their mutual desire to protect Laurent, a young boy who many believe to be the messiah. Together, they've formed their own little surrogate family. After spending so much time together, in constant fear of death, Daryl and Isabelle shared an intimate kiss in the latest installment.

The kiss stirred up some strong feelings among the fandom. According to Reedus, fans shouldn't expect things to get any more romantic than that. “I don't think there was an intention to get to second base," he told Entertainment Weekly. I think it was more of scarily parting these curtains to look at the idea of it.” And as for filming the scene itself, it wasn't exactly perfectly romantic. “There were mosquitoes flying in our mouths the entire time,” Reedus revealed.

Daryl's had a couple of romances in the past, perhaps most notably with Leah (Lynn Collins), who turned out to be a member of the violent group the Reapers. Daryl would eventually go on to kill her. Over the years, Reedus has had to kiss several co-stars on various projects. Looking back, he recalls the time he kissed none other than Alan Rickman. “I’ll tell you the first time I ever did it, which is hysterical,” he said. “I did a movie called Dark Harbor, which I also made out with Alan Rickman in. But that's not the kiss I was talking about.”

The actual onscreen kiss that he remembers with dismay is with Polly Walker, who you may know from her portrayal of Portia Featherington in Bridgerton. This kiss also happens in Dark Harbor, where Rickman and Walker play a married couple and Reedus plays a mysterious stranger. What made this even more awkward than with Alan Rickman? Well, allow Reedus to dish the details: “It was my first big passionate kiss right on the screen. The actress, Polly, was super, super patient with me, but I went in full tongue, and then she was going [mimics painful grunting] and I was like, ‘What the f--- is happening?’”

Oh, Norman. Clearly lessons have been learned.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2, The Book of Carol, continues Sundays on AMC.
