Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Cameron directed Avatar: The Way of Water. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The film serves as a sequel to the groundbreaking 2009 blockbuster Avatar, picking up years later as Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their family explore uncharted regions of Pandora and encounter new threats and mysterious creatures.
Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña return from the first movie to play their iconic characters, Jake and Neytiri. Also in the cast are Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Jack Champion, Jamie Flatters, Cliff Curtis, Giovanni Ribisi, and so many others.

Although not confirmed, Avatar: The Way of Water is likely being rereleased in theaters because another sequel is set to come out later this year. Avatar: Fire and Ash is the highly anticipated third installment in Cameron’s epic saga, and it's slated to hit U.S. theaters on Dec. 19, 2025. This movie will see Jake, Neytiri, and most of the other characters from the second film return. Jake, Neytiri, and their family will find themselves facing an old threat as well as a new, unexpected danger.
There are currently two more Avatar movies set to come out after Avatar: Fire and Ash. They are Avatar 4 and Avatar 5. The fourth film will be released in theaters on Dec. 21, 2029, while the fifth movie will hit theaters on Dec. 19, 2031. However, keep in mind that these release dates could change.
