Spoilers are ahead from One Piece season 2 episode 3!
The second episode of One Piece season 2 saw the Straw Hats finally enter the Grand Line. We watched as they faced the dangerous rapids of Reverse Mountain and the surprising challenge of Laboon, the massive whale waiting at the base. It also introduced us to two new members of the Baroque Works, Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9.
At the end of the episode, the Straw Hats finally set sail to their first island in the Grand Line. What island is it? We're about to find out in the third episode of the second season titled "Whisky Business."

The Straw Hats arrive at Whisky Peak
The third episode opens with Zoro imagining himself in battle with Mihawk on the Going Merry. He really wants to be better than him and take over his title of the "World's Greatest Swordsman." He only wakes up from his daydream after hearing Usopp yell out that he's caught a fish. On the Going Merry, the Straw Hats notice that the weather keeps changing. While Zoro talks to Mr. 9 in the kitchen area of the ship, Luffy talks to Miss Wednesday somewhere else.
Luffy then brings Miss Wednesday to the ship's deck where the others are. They're all surprised that he let her out of her bindings. Luffy explains that he's trusting his gut. After having a brief conversation with her, he trusts that she won't cause them any harm. The others are skeptical, but they don't have much time to think about it because Miss Wednesday distracts them by pointing out a nearby island. It's an island called Cactus Island. Why? Well, it's filled with big rock mountains that look like cacti. That's where they're headed next.
When the Straw Hats finally turn around, they see Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 about to jump off the ship. The two Baroque Works agents say goodbye, then jump into the water. Next, we see the Straw Hats finally arrive on the island and in a town called Whisky Peak. The townspeople look at them weirdly at first before they change their demeanor.
The Straw Hats then meet a man named Igaram, who introduces himself as the mayor of Whisky Peak. He tells them that the town loves pirates. A resident of Whisky Peak then walks up to The Straw Hats and tells them that just the night before, another pirate crew had visited. Usopp asks if they're still on the island, but Igaram tells him they left. Luffy then asks Igaram if they're just as friendly with assassins as they are with pirates.
Igaram looks at him strangely, and Luffy explains that two assassins escaped their ship and might have washed up on the island. Of course, he's talking about Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9. Igaram thanks Luffy for the notice before telling him the town's got it covered. Nami then asks Igaram how long it takes for a Log Pose to reset on Whisky Peak. He responds by saying the next morning. Now, the Straw Hats have to spend the night on the island.
Igaram's true identity is revealed
Meanwhile, Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 finally arrive. Miss Wednesday tells Mr. 9 that she's going to meet with Mr. 8 to discuss their failed mission. Wait! Another Baroque Works member is on the island, too? Who could it be? We're then taken to the town's tavern. Nami learns from a resident that it's dangerous on top of the cactus mountains. She wants to sketch the island, and believes sketching from there would be best. Now that Nami's learned that it's dangerous, it's only made her want to go even more.
Elsewhere, Luffy heads to the town's bakery to search for food. As he tests out the different desserts, Igaram walks into the building. During their conversation, Igaram warns Luffy to be careful of whom he trusts. Shortly after, Miss Wednesday appears from a back room in the bakery. Igaram says her name, which makes Luffy immediately stand up out of his seat. Igaram's true identity is then revealed. He's Mr. 8! Miss Wednesday and Igaram/Mr. 8 successfully put Luffy to sleep after Miss Wednesday does an Enchanting Vertigo Dance while Igaram/Mr. 8 plays the trumpet.
The episode then cuts to Nami, who discovers a mysterious man dropping what looks to be a dead body on the floor of a room on the island. After the man leaves the room, Nami enters and lifts up a black covering. What she finds are the dead bodies of two members of the pirate crew who had visited the island the day before. The mysterious man then reenters the room. During this scene, we learn that the town doesn't actually like pirates. They pretend to like them, and then kill them. Afterwards, they bury their bodies on top of the cactus mountains.
Nami fights the man before leaving to find Zoro. Once she finds him, she discovers that he's just knocked out two townspeople as well. Now that they know the town isn't safe, they split up to go get the others. Nami searches for Luffy, while Zoro heads toward the tavern to find Sanji and Usopp.
Baroque Works runs Whisky Peak
Shortly after arriving at the tavern, Zoro gets into a physical altercation with two townspeople. Mr. 9 then makes his presence known from a higher floor of the building. Zoro puts two and two together and realizes that the townspeople are actually members of Baroque Works. The entire town is secretly filled with agents tasked with capturing and eliminating pirates who enter it. Mr. 9 orders the town to kill Zoro. He thinks that it'll be easy since there are 100 of them and only one of him, but Zoro quickly takes down wave after wave of attackers with his incredible swordsmanship.
Back at the bakery, Miss Wednesday and Igaram/Mr. 8 discuss how they're going to get off the island. It appears Miss Wednesday has some secret information about something that she needs to get back to her father. Igaram/Mr. 8 knows about it too. At this moment, Luffy is slowly coming to. What really wakes him up is when he overhears them talking about stealing the Going Merry.
Miss Wednesday and Igaram/Mr. 8 then try to escape by car, but Luffy manages to stop them. This is when Nami catches up to them. Just as Miss Wednesday is about to come clean about what she and Igaram/Mr. 8 are doing, Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine arrive. Miss Wednesday thinks Mr. 0 has sent them as backup, but that's not the case. They've been sent to eliminate both of her and Igaram/Mr. 8. Why? Well, Mr. 0 found out that Miss Wednesday and Igaram/Mr. 8 have been poking their nose into the Baroque Works organization's secrets.
Aha! So, they're not really assassins. They infiltrated Baroque Works for some reason. Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine then engage in battle with the duo and Luffy and Nami. Back at the tavern, Zoro successfully rescues Usopp and Sanji. He then continues to take out the rest of the Baroque Works members in the town, including Mr. 9. After escaping from Miss Valentine and Mr. 5, Miss Wednesday finally comes clean to Nami and Luffy.
She explains that she and Igaram/Mr. 8 went undercover in Baroque Works to try to bring them down. She then tells Luffy and Nami that they need to leave the island immediately or they'll all be dead. Unfortunately, Igaram/Mr. 8 was hurt in the fight. He tells Miss Wednesday that he won't be able to make it to the ship, but she still needs to go. During this scene, we learn more about who Igaram and Miss Wednesday are.
Igaram is the Captain of the Alabasta Royal Guard, while Miss Wednesday is the missing Princess of Alabasta. With Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine hot on their trail, Igaram distracts them while the Straw Hats and Miss Wednesday make their way to the Going Merry. As the Going Merry sails away from the island, Miss Wednesday watches as Mr. 5 sets Igaram on fire.
The next morning, Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine try to recruit Mr. 9 on their side to hunt down Miss Wednesday. However, he refuses to help. Miss Valentine then eliminates him in the tavern. The third episode then cuts to the Going Merry, where the Straw Hats talk with Miss Wednesday. She reveals her real name and her royal title to them. It's Nefertari Vivi, Princess of Alabasta. She explains that Baroque Works has been sowing dissent between her father and their citizens, putting their country of Alabasta on the verge of civil war.
She also explains that by going undercover with Igaram, they discovered the one thing that may put a stop to Baroque Works's machinations and save her kingdom. It's Mr. 0's true identity. She just needs to get this important information back to her father in Alabasta. Suddenly, pink petals start falling down onto the ship. It's Miss All Sunday! This is where the third episode wraps up.
One Piece season 2 episode 3 review
While the third episode was great altogether, I'd have to say the best part was when Zoro fought all 100 Baroque Works members in the town of Whisky Peak. Watching him take on that many enemies at once was just incredible. Even completely outnumbered, Zoro stayed calm and took them down one by one with skill and determination.
I also enjoyed learning the true identities of Miss Wednesday and Igaram. Miss Wednesday is one of my favorite characters from the manga, and seeing her story start to unfold in the live-action adaptation has been really satisfying so far. With Miss All Sunday's surprise visit at the end of the episode, I'm curious to see how her presence will complicate things for the Straw Hats and Miss Wednesday. I'm also looking forward to seeing what kind of challenges the crew will face next as they continue through the Grand Line.
One Piece season 2 is available to stream on Netflix.
