Summer is coming to an end, and it was yet another incredible year for summer blockbusters! Over the course of the last several months, we’ve seen a wave of amazing movies hitting the big screen and wowing audiences worldwide. The end result has been the biggest summer box office of all time domestically!
Between May 1 and Labor Day on September 7, domestic ticket sales stand at $4.67 billion, per a report from Rentrak, which makes the summer of 2026 the biggest summer for movies since 2013’s $4.75 billion year. It’s not surprising that 2026 will go down in the history books, as it was a summer that brought fans a number of hit movies that set the box office on fire in one of the most well-rounded summers yet for genre fans.
Of course, with summer coming to an end and the calendar turning to fall, some of the biggest summer blockbusters are finally making their way to streaming, giving fans the chance to watch them again from the comfort of their homes or, in some instances, watch for the first time. We’ve seen many big movies getting streaming release dates in recent weeks, and we’ve now gotten confirmation that one of this year’s biggest sci-fi films is about to land on Peacock!
Disclosure Day sets October 9 streaming release date on Peacock
If you failed to make it out to theaters to see Steven Spielberg’s latest release or simply have been counting down the days until you were able to watch it a second time from home, you’re in luck, as Disclosure Day is finally making its way to Peacock this fall! Peacock has confirmed the hit film starring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo will be available to stream starting on October 9, nearly four months after the film opened in theaters on June 12.
It’s definitely been a long wait for Disclosure Day to hit streaming, as we’ve seen several films released after it already landed on streaming, but that’s what happens when you’re one of the biggest blockbusters of the year: the studios make you wait to stream. While Disclosure Day might not have reached the same heights as some of this summer’s other genre films such as The Odyssey and Project Hail Mary, the film still made quite a splash and made a bit of history in the process.
Disclosure Day set a new record as the biggest opening weekend for an original Spielberg film and gave the famed director his best domestic opening in 18 years. The film would wrap its run with $241 million at the global box office, landing at No. 20 on the highest-grossing films of 2026 so far.
Without giving too much away, as Disclosure Day is a film that deserves to be enjoyed without the key plot given away, the film asks the question: if you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you or proved it to you, would that frighten you? It's a film that is quite captivating, and O'Connor and Blunt's performances truly carry the film, giving it emotional weight with a final act that will leave you with quite a lot to process.
In a crowded summer, Disclosure Day managed to surprise moviegoers as a hit that far too many moviegoers slept on, but that can finally be remedied with the film’s release on Peacock this October!
During a time when sci-fi and fantasy offerings on TV are thin, Disclosure Day will make for a perfect weekend watch and is sure to become a strong performer on Peacock upon its arrival.
