5. "Sozin's Comet, Part 4: Avatar Aang", Avatar: The Last Airbender (9.9)
"Sozin's Comet" is a four-part arc that served as the series finale of Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender. The explosive conclusion to the popular show has many spectacular scenes that pay off years of world-building and character development.
From Zuko and Katara's battle against Azula to Iroh's determination to liberate Ba Sing Se, to Aang unlocking his seventh chakra in the battle with Ozai but refusing to kill him, the finale is a delightful kaleidoscope of sequences.
Fans even get to see Aang's energy-bending, which he uses to remove Ozai's fire-bending, rendering him powerless as Sozin's Coment disappears for good. Zuko becomes the new king and promises a peaceful postwar future. The episode ends on a happy note as fans finally get to see Aang and Katara share a kiss in the sunset while the main characters gather in Iroh's tea shop.
4. "End of the Prologue", Vinland Saga (9.9)
The Season 1 finale of Vinland Saga is accurately named "End of the Prologue" as it brings an end to the complicated rivalry between Thorfinn and Askelaad. The first season works to flesh out the character of Thorfinn and set him on the path of becoming a true warrior.
The finale sees Prince Canute kill off Askelaad, the mentor of Thorfinn and also his father's killer, and rob the latter of his vengeance. It paves the way for the protagonist to move on from the idea of taking revenge for his father and making a life of his own, now that Askelaad is dead. The episode ends with Canute declaring himself the ruler of England and commander of the army, as King Sweyn was previously killed by Askelaad before he died.
While the episode itself is as thrilling as they come, it is Thorfinn and Askelaad's relationship and its eventual fate that earns "End of the Prologue" high acclaim.
