15 fantasy/sci-fi TV shows to catch up with in 2024 before the next season drops

8) Outlander season 7, part 2
Will the Droughtlander end anytime soon? Reports say that with a bit more patience, fans of Outlander will be able to see the second part of the seventh season sometime in 2024. The first part, which aired more than six months ago, ended with star-crossed lovers Jamie and Claire leaving the U.S. for Europe. Fans of the time-traveling fantasy romance would know better than to expect a smooth journey for the couple. But bad it will be, only time will tell. Given that the show will end with an eighth and final season after this, the remaining episodes of season 7 will likely be crucial.
9) Halo season 2
The first season of Halo, based on the video game franchise of the same name, premiered in 2022 on Paramount+. The show met with mixed reviews and curiously little hype. While the cast and visual effects earned accolades, the show was criticized for straying from the source material quite a bit. It was later explained by the showrunners that the series was a standalone story inspired by the lord of Halo but isn’t an adaptation, prequel, or sequel.
The military science-fiction show, which follows a good old-fashioned story about humanity vs. aliens, is set to return for a second season on February 8, 2024. The first season has only nine episodes, which you can easily binge before the season 2 begins.
10) Doctor Who season 14
The longest-running sci-fi/fantasy show on television, Doctor Who has been on the air for 60 years and still shows no signs of losing its popularity. After originally running from 1963 to 1989, the series was rebooted in 2005. Ncuti Gatwa of Sex Education fame has taken over as the Fifteenth Doctor from David Tennant, and will headline the upcoming 14th season of the British cult classic, coming to Disney+ and BBC in May 2024.
Gatwa already had a spectacular debut in the Christmas Day special, "The Church on Ruby Road," co-starring Millie Gibson. Watching six decades of the show won’t likely be possible before the new season drops, but you can always start with the reboot episodes.
11) Arcane season 2
If shows based on video games are your cup of tea, you’ve surely considered giving Arcane a watch. Debuting on Netflix in 2021, the small screen spin on League of Legends proved to be a surprise hit thanks to visually enchanting graphics and an exciting steampunk storyline. Futuristic dystopia is an oft-repeated theme, but Arcane holds its own by putting a richly dramatic tale of two sisters, Vi and Jinx, at its center. Netflix recently shared the first look at the second season, while announcing that the animated series will return in November 2024.
