6 things we want to see in HBO's Aegon the Conqueror spinoff
By Daniel Roman
The founding of King's Landing and forging of the Iron Throne
Aegon's Conquest leaves Westeros changed, and nowhere is that more evident than with King's Landing, the capital of the future Seven Kingdoms and a hotbed of political intrigue which lies at the heart of both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. Before Aegon's Conquest, King's Landing didn't even exist; it was so-named because the city was built on the very spot where Aegon first landed his forces on the continent. As such, it would be necessary for the Aegon's Conquest series to depict how King's Landing was built, laying the seeds for the city we all know and love.
There's so much potential for the series to explore how Aegon and his sisters built up King's Landing from nothing, turning it into a major seat of power in the Seven Kingdoms. What were their first government institutions? How did they decide on initial defenses? What were their concerns and hopes and dreams for this city they decided to found? It's juicy material and there's no way an Aegon's Conquest show could leave it out.
Of course, that also means we'd see how Aegon and his dragon Balerion forged the Iron Throne from the swords of all the enemies defeated during the Conquest. Few images from Game of Thrones are as iconic as the throne itself, a chair which inspired people to murder each other for centuries. Is there any doubt that its forging would be one of the key scenes of an Aegon's Conquest series?
Adding to the excitement is the idea that any scene involving the throne being forged would probably create a great parallel with Game of Thrones, which ended with that very chair being melted to slag by Daenerys Targaryen's bereaved dragon Drogon.
But since we're talking about Game of Thrones and Daenerys, there's one other thing we need to discuss which HBO has set up as a key component of any Aegon the Conqueror spinoff...
