3. Luna Lovegood

It’s common knowledge that Luna Lovegood moves to the beat of her own drum. There isn’t another character quite as quirky as Luna in the book and film series. But she flies a bit under the radar in both. There’s a lot more to Luna that the weird ramblings and overall oddball vibe.

And it’s easy to see why Luna is the way she is. Her father, another person who's mind is so open to alternative views of the world it's in danger of falling out, has quite the interesting influence on Luna, and those unique characteristics make her who she is.

At her core, Luna is one of the most important characters in this story. Similar to Neville Longbottom, Luna is a beacon of light, love, and hope in a dark world. She’s always there to give Harry, Ron, and Hermione a nudge in the right direction, but she’s also willing to keep the fight going even when it might not be popular to do so.

Nobody else knows that about Luna. She’s frequently overlooked, but she’s also as smart as anyone in this story. Most importantly, Luna has a positive impact on Harry. Without those friendships that Harry formed with Luna and Neville along the way, this story ends very differently.
