Vikings: Valhalla
- Seasons: 2
- Created by Jed Stuart
- Cast: Leo Suter, Sam Corlett, Frida Gustavsson, Bradley Freegard, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Caroline Henderson, Laura Berlin, David Oakes, and more
- Where to watch: Netflix
Vikings: Valhalla, as mentioned, is the spinoff and sequel series to Vikings. It’s set several hundred years after that show, so there are no characters from the original Vikings around. However, that means it takes place around the same time as The Last Kingdom. There are a few historical figures who pop up in both series.
Vikings: Valhalla follows three important characters: Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett), Harald Sigurdson (Leo Suter), and Freydis Eiríksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson) in their adventures around England, Scandinavia, and beyond.
There are two seasons of Vikings: Valhalla streaming on Netflix. The series was renewed for a third season before season 2 premiered, and it’s already been filmed. Vikings: Valhalla season 3 will premiere in 2024. We were hoping it would be released early this year, but it might be a bit before Vikings: Valhalla season 3 hits Netflix. Unfortunately, Vikings: Valhalla season 3 will be the final season of the series.
Aside from taking place around the same time, Vikings: Valhalla and The Last Kingdom have a similar tone. Uhtred, Leif, Harald, and Freydis share similar struggles. They always find a way out of tricky situations with the odds stacked against them. It’s great!

- Where to watch: MAX
House of the Dragon is a prequel to Game of Thrones, and it’s easily one of the best shows on TV right now. The first season premiered on HBO and MAX (formerly HBO MAX) in the summer of 2022, and it was a huge hit! The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood.
House of the Dragon is set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It follows the Targaryens and the other prominent families during the reign of King Viserys Targaryen I. It will explore the civil war that erupts between rival factions of the Targaryens family following the death of King Viserys.
Fans have had been waiting a long time to watch House of the Dragon season 2, but that wait is almost over. House of the Dragon season 2 premieres on HBO and MAX in the summer of 2024. We don’t know the release date yet, but it should be announced soon.
We highly recommend fans of The Last Kingdom check out House of the Dragon if they haven’t seen the series already. The shows are very different. House of the Dragon leans more into fantasy, with dragons flying around everywhere, but the political intrigue, focus on duty and honor, and family relationships are present on both shows. George R.R. Martin already mentioned that House of the Dragon season 3 is in the works!
