Reshoots begin on House of the Dragon season 2

House of the Dragon season 2 is still on track to premiere this summer, but they are doing some reshoots this month.

The other week, we heard that HBO was going to be doing some reshoots on the second season of House of the Dragon, its Game of Thrones prequel series. Now those reshoots have started, according to reliable fansite Redanian Intelligence. Reshoots should go on for two or three weeks at Leavesden Studios in Watford, England, where the show does the bulk of its indoor filming. Odds are they're reshooting some smaller-scale scenes featuring characters talking to each other; they probably aren't adding in any huge new dragon scenes or stuff like that.

Lest you think that this means the second season of House of the Dragon is in trouble, rest easy knowing that reshoots are common in both film and TV. The cast and crew get to the end of a shoot, the producers look at the finished product and decide to tweak this line, that piece of blocking, that bit of dialogue, etc. House of the Dragon is an important show for HBO and the network wants to make sure the new episodes are as good as possible.

That said, we've wondered if these reshoots in particular were complicated by the fact that most of the second season of House of the Dragon was filmed at a time when Hollywood writers (and then actors) were on strike. The strikes shut down productions all around the world, but the House of the Dragon shoot was allowed to continue, mainly because the bulk of it took place in England, which is governed by different, more anti-competitive labor laws than is the United States.

Still, during the strikes, writers could not make edits to the scripts as they were being shot, which is a common practice. Maybe a line as originally written doesn't quite work when spoken aloud, so a writer comes in and makes an adjustment and they can shoot the new version right then and there. That couldn't happen during the bulk of filming on House of the Dragon season 2, so that might be something the team is picking up during these reshoots.

Still, there's nothing to be too worried about here. It shouldn't affect the release date. Although an exact date eludes us, we know that House of the Dragon season 2 is coming out sometime this summer. After the reshoots, perhaps we'll get something more specific.
