It's been a while since the premiere of House of the Dragon, HBO's prequel to its hit fantasy series Game of Thrones. The Westeros withdrawal bites worse than the cold on the Wall at Castle Black...but soon, we shall return! That's because HBO has not one, but two prequel series in the works at the moment. First up will be season 2 of House of the Dragon, which is slated to release this June. We're expecting a trailer any day now.

But after that's done, the next Westeros show on the docket is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which will adapt Martin's beloved Dunk & Egg novellas. Unlike Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, Dunk & Egg are much smaller scale stories about a knight named Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, who travel the land having adventures. They're fun and full of heart, and obviously we can't wait to see them on screen.

Which brings us to this latest news: the reliable super spies over at Redanian Intelligence report that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is scheduled to go into "active pre-production" in early April. They've also learned the codename for the series, which is used in casting calls and other similar documents to try (and mostly fail) to keep us internet sleuth types off the trail. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is being referred to as "Sweetfoot." That's the name of Dunk's horse; a nice touch.

According to RI, this lines up with a statement that storyboard artist Adam Pescott made on Facebook in early March, which featured a picture of Egg and said he would begin his next job “in a couple of weeks."

That means A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is still on track to begin filming in June in Belfast, Northern Ireland. So while we're all getting wrapped up in the Dance of the Dragons civil war, Dunk and Egg will be setting out on their first adventure together.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms marks the first time that A Song of Ice and Fire creator George R.R. Martin will serve as a writer on a Westeros-related television show since season 4 of Game of Thrones. The series will be overseen by showrunner Ira Parker, who was a writer on House of the Dragon. Annie Julia Wyman (Tokyo Vice), Aziza Barnes (Snowfall) and Hiram Martinez (The Last Ship) round out the writers room for the series, whose first season is slated to run for six episodes.

We'll likely be watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight sometime in 2025. Which means you have plenty of time to read the novellas if you haven't checked them out yet! They're a wonderful way to return to Westeros for a bit during the long wait for The Winds of Winter.

Next. GRRM wants to finish strong. Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin determined to finish his books "strong". dark
