Actor Tom Hollander was once sent Tom Holland's 7-figure Spider-Man cheque

Tom Hollander is a British actor known for his work in some huge Hollywood blockbusters, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Pride and Prejudice, and Bohemian Rhapsody. Not to be confused with Tom Holland, who's also a British actor known for roles in some of the biggest franchises in the world, most notably his portrayal of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Given their similar names, it's only natural that some people would confuse them. Speaking to Seth Meyers on his latenight show, Hollander discussed the very real mix-ups that occur between him and Tom Holland. “Yeah, it’s been very difficult,” Hollander said, “’cause, you know, I was here first. But he’s enormously famous.”
Sure, it's one thing for the general public to get confused over names, but we'd expect a little more expertise from executives sending out millions of dollars in royalty cheques. After playing Spider-Man in a couple Avengers movie — which make hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office — Tom Holland was given an enormous bonus, a bonus that inexplicably found its way into Tom Hollander's bank annount.
"I don’t think I’m in ‘The Avengers,'” Hollander thought, before the temptation became too much and he opened the email. “It was an astonishing amount of money,” he explained. “It was not his salary, it was his first box-office bonus. Not the whole box-office bonus, the first one. And it was more money than I’d ever... it was a seven-figure sum."
Seeing that sum, Hollander felt just a little awkward after previously being proud of getting paid $30,000 for a BBC show he worked out. “He was 20, or something. So my feeling of smugness that you remember I had in the first half disappeared completely. But that’s showbiz!”
Tom Holland is currently in the middle of a small break from acting. After a tough shoot of AppleTV+'s The Crowded Room, he decided to take some time off. "I'm now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was," he told ExtraTV in 2023. We can't blame him; his career has been absolutely non-stop!
