All credit goes to Jamie and Claire Fraser for the success of Outlander

It is no secret that fans of Outlander enjoy the hot and steamy nature of the relationship between Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan). From day one, there has been something so undeniably electric about the two of them. As the seasons wear on, the love for this couple persists. It is going to be quite a feat to say farewell to them once Outlander ends with its upcoming eight season.
While speaking at a Variety TV showcase, Outlander executive producer Maril Davis spoke about the appeal of the relationship, and how it played a role in decisions about the upcoming spinoff Blood of My Blood. How do you replace a couple like Jamie and Claire? It is near impossible, but they had the support of Outlander author Diana Gabaldon.
"[Co-executive producer Ronald D Moore] and I since the beginning... have always wanted to spin it off and Matt Roberts, who's our showrunner currently, came to us and was like 'I've this idea, I wanna do the story of Jamie's parents,'" said Davis. "With Outlander we've been very lucky because there's all these books but we're never gonna catch Diana at this point because we're going to wrap up our eighth season and she's still writing one more book. So we're like, what other ways can we expand this universe?"
"Obviously everyone watches the show primarily because of Jamie and Claire and their amazing relationship and it's hard to figure out who else can have that kind of relationship. There's no books written about Jamie's parents, but there's kernels, there's little breadcrumbs along the way, you know their basic story but it's not fully fleshed out. And Matt said I have a really interesting idea for it, I wanna do that but I want to add in Claire's parents. I was like, whoah, that's really interesting, I hadn't really thought about that."
What is Outlander: Blood of My Blood about?
As Davis explained above, the prequel series will follow the story of Jamie and Claire's parents across time. It will parallel their stories, one in the 1900s and one in the 1700s, although we assume there won't be any actual time travel involved.
It is going to be quite a journey because while we've heard about both Claire and Jamie's parents, we don't know all that much about their lives. Jamie's parents have been brought up throughout the books and the show, so I'm really excited to see all of this play out.
Premiere dates for Outlander's final season and Blood of My Blood have not been announced as of yet. However, we know that the second half of Outlander season 7 will premieres on STARZ on November 22.
