Arcane season 2 to release in three "Acts," all dropping on Netflix in November 2024

Netflix is experimenting with its release model for Arcane's second and final season. Plus, a new clip shows Vi mixing it up in the ring.

It's hard to believe, but we're just over a month away from the premiere of the second and final season of Arcane, Netflix's Emmy-winning animated series based on the League of Legends video game. And we know this because Netflix finally confirmed the release date for Arcane as part of its Geeked Week celebration this week! And not only that, the stream also revealed that Arcane will have something of an unconventional release schedule.

Arcane season 2 will release in three "Acts," which feels suitably dramatic and fitting for the final stretch of the series. But don't worry, you won't have to wait long between each one. All three Acts will drop during the month of November, so we'll still get the full journey in a reasonably compact amount of time. Here's the release schedule:

Arcane season 2 release dates

  • Act One — November 9
  • Act Two — November 16
  • Act Three — November 23

In addition to Arcane season 2's three-act structure, Netflix also announced that there will be an aftershow to breakdown each act. Titled Afterglow, it's set to be hosted by Hailee Steinfeld (Vi) and Ella Purnell (Jinx). We're going to get our Arcane fix and get it good for the month of November!

Beyond all the exciting announcements, Netflix also debuted a brand new clip from season 2...and it's pretty intense. This one features Vi, who's stepping into the ring for some underground boxing as she works through some intense emotional turmoil:

What the hell is happening with Vi in Arcane season 2?

Considering that Arcane is ending after this season, I've always assumed it was going to have a pretty large journey for its characters...but damn, what is happening to Vi this season? In the initial marketing for Arcane season 2, we saw Vi decked out in her law enforcement outfit as she joined Piltover's finest, to help Caitlyn (Katie Leung) track down Jinx and put an end to the fighting between the upper and lower cities. That lines up with where we see Vi in League of Legends, where she's Caitlyn's partner.

But from the looks of this clip, Vi's going to go to some pretty dark places well away from law enforcement as well. From the smudging her hair black and wearing war paint to punching an underground fighter so hard she tears off his mechanical jaw, things look like they're gonna get dark for Vi this season. That's probably just right given the stakes, but I'm not ready for it.

Arcane is created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, and produced by Fortiche Productions. In addition to Purnell, Steinfeld and Leung, the cast for season 2 also includes Reed Shannon (Ekko), Amirah Vann (Sevika), Mick Wingert (Heimerdinger), Ellen Thomas (Ambessa), and Brett Tucker (Singed). Netflix's press release notes that other cast members will be announced; I'll just note that no voice actor is listed for Warwick, the big ol' werewolf we saw in the trailer. That's one I'd look out for.

Act One of Arcane season 2 premieres November 9 on Netflix.
