Batman: Caped Crusader replaces The Boys as Amazon Prime Video's most popular show

Between The Boys, Gen V, Invincible and now Batman: Caped Crusader, Amazon Prime Video is the undisputed king of superhero shows. Y'know what, throw Reacher on there too.

I don't know if it was intentional, but Amazon Prime Video has become the premiere location for great superhero TV shows. The Boys is a subversive delight that's heading into its fifth and final season, with the excellent Gen V likely sticking around to carry the torch beyond that. Invincible, based on Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman's comic book, is a violently giddy delight. And now there's Batman: Caped Crusader, a new animated Batman series from Bruce Timm, the guy who developed the beloved Batman: The Animated Series way back in the early 1990s.

That series took Batman more seriously than a lot of modern fans of the time were used to while preserving some of the pulpier, poppier elements of the comics. Yes, Batman is dark, but he's capable of cracking a smile every once in a while. Caped Crusader, which is set in the 1940s, continues in that tradition. It's gone over well, getting rave reviews from critics (including us) on Rotten Tomatoes and shooting to the top of Amazon's TV charts, edging out The Boys to become the most-watched show on the platform upon its debut on August 1. As of August 6, it still held the top spot:

  1. Batman: Caped Crusader
  2. The Boys
  3. Fallout
  4. Troppo
  5. Sausage Party: Foodtopia
  6. The Chosen
  7. My Lady Jane
  8. The Lord of the Rigns: The Rings of Power
  9. Reacher
  10. Gen V

The Boys and Gen V are also on this list, underlining Amazon's role as the home of great superhero shows. Invincible has fallen off for now, which I consider a tragedy on par with the Hindenburg disaster. But Reaacher is on there, so I'm going to grandfather that series in as a superhero show. It's about a hulking dude who goes from town to town helping people; close enough.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power clocks in at #8. Amazon is prepping a new season of that to come out later this month. Considering how much they're spending on it, surely they want it to raise a spot or seven.

Next. The Rings of Power season 2 looks fun, but it's hard to get over this absurd hurdle. The Rings of Power season 2 looks fun, but it's hard to get over this absurd hurdle. dark
