Daisy Ridley wants John Boyega to return to Star Wars
By Ashley Hurst
Daisy Ridley (Rey) and John Boyega (Finn) kicked off Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy with The Force Awakens back in 2015. They were the central duo of the sequel trilogy, both introduced at the same time. We haven't seen Rey or Finn on our screens since the rather disappointing finale of the trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, but Rey will officially return in an upcoming movie about a New Jedi Order.
While Daisy Ridley is returning to Star Wars, there's no word about John Boyega reprising his role. He wasn't too happy with how things turned out. Following the release of The Rise of Skywalker, Boyega dinged the writers for not developing his character in a way he would've liked. "They gave all the nuance to Adam Driver, all the nuance to Daisy Ridley," he told Variety. "Let's be honest. Daisy knows this. Adam knows this. Everybody knows. I'm not exposing anything."
Since then, Boyega has moved onto other things, starring in the sci-fi movie They Cloned Tyrone on Netflix, for instance. "I'm open to all characters and scripts that are enjoyable, have a great cast attached, and a terrific director. So yeah, I'm open to all opportunities," he told TechRadar in 2023. But there are some fans who would love to see him back in Star Wars.
Recently, when Daisy Ridley was asked about whether she'd like to work alongside John Boyega again, she made it clear that she wants him back aboard the franchise. "Absolutely, of course," Ridley told The Hollywood Reporter. "It feels like we should, yeah."
After their shared adventures, Ridley has formed a lasting relationship with Boyega. “John’s got my heart. He’s just my peanut,” she said of their friendship. “It’s the closest relationship to a brother I’ve ever had. He’s just wicked.”
Whether there's room for John Boyega to appear in Daisy Ridley's new Star Wars movie remains to be seen. Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, details on the movie are currently under wraps, but we know it'll focus on Rey attempting to build a New Jedi Order. The film does not have a release date yet; watch this space.
