Dark Matter was the most-watched show or movie on streaming for its debut week

It looks like Apple TV+ has another sci-fi hit on its hands with Dark Matter, about a professor who gets kidnapped by his own alternate universe doppelgänger.

Apple TV+ is killing it when it comes to sci-fi shows. From For All Mankind to Foundation to Severance to Silo, it's the go-to streaming service who people who want to watch and go "whoa." The nerds at Apple are being good to us.

Their latest is Dark Matter, based on the book by Blake Crouch about a physics professor who is kidnapped into another reality by his own alternate universe doppelgänger, and who then has to find his way back to his own world before the doppelgänger hurts his family. It's the kind of brainy sci-fi drama we've come to expect from Apple TV+, and according to the Reelgood Streaming Charts, it was the most-streamed movie or show for the week of May 9 to May 15, right after it dropped its first two episodes.

Reelgood's metrics aren't quite as reliable as if a streamer released numbers itself, but they give us a good idea of what's popping off on streaming. Here's the top 10 chart for the week of May 9 to May 15, with both movies and TV shows included:

  1. Dark Matter (Apple TV+)
  2. Fallout (Prime Video)
  3. Bodkin (Netflix)
  4. Baby Reindeer (Netflix)
  5. The Iron Claw (MAX)
  6. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Netflix)
  7. The Idea of You (Prime Video)
  8. Unfrosted (Netflix)
  9. The Beekeeper (MGM+)
  10. A Man in Full (Netflix)

Here's just TV shows:

  1. Dark Matter (Apple TV+)
  2. Fallout (Prime Video)
  3. Bodkin (Netflix)
  4. Baby Reindeer (Netflix)
  5. A Man in Full (Netflix)
  6. Young Sheldon (Netflix)
  7. Under the Bridge (Hulu)
  8. Maxton Hall: The World Between Us (Prime Video)
  9. Doctor Who (MAX)
  10. The Veil (Hulu)

And here's just movies:

  1. The Iron Claw (MAX)
  2. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Hulu)
  3. The Idea of You (Prim
  4. Unfrosted (Netflix)
  5. The Beekeeper (MGM+)
  6. Late Night With The Devil (AMC+)
  7. War for the Planet of the Apes (Hulu)
  8. Anyone But You (Netflix)
  9. American Fiction (Prime Video)
  10. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Hulu)

It's good to see the Amazon Prime Video series Fallout still hanging on, and obviously the release of the new movie Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes spurred interest in some of the older Apes movies.

But mostly it's Dark Matter's party. The show further cements Apple TV+'s reputation for making original, high-quality sci-fi shows, which is certainly welcome. Severance, another one of its sci-fi hits, will return for a second season later this year or early next.
