Netflix's The Sandman recently wrapped up filming on its second season and is now in post-production. The show will have a big presence at Geeked Week later this month, where we can expect a sneak peek at the new batch of episodes. In the meantime, Douglas Booth (Cluracan) has been singing the show's praises, saying it's "gone up a level" from season 1.
The high praise from Booth comes as a huge relief to Sandman fans. The previous few months have been a struggle for fans who've been keeping track of the production. While no specific details have been revealed, leaked photos from filming suggest that the show is being filmed through to its conclusion. We've seen scenes being filmed fromThe Kindly Ones, the endgame of the comics. In a reported 12 episodes, the show is cramming a crazy amount of story into season 2.
Douglas Booth's Cluracan will be one of the main characters in season 2. Cluracan is a courtier and ambassador to the court of the Queen of Faerie. He's the elder brother of Nuala, who's played by Ann Skelly in season 2. He. appears several times throughout the comics, specifically in Season of Mists, The World's End and The Kindly Ones. As for the TV show, Booth obviously can't reveal spoilers, but he says that he appears in seven episodes: "I'm not allowed to say much about the story, but I am in seven," he told Collider.
For reference, in season 1, Matthew, Lucienne, Desire, and the Corinthian all appeared in seven episodes or less. It's clear that Cluracan will be one of the main characters in the new installment.
Moreover, Booth also heaped praise on season 2, adding that he believes it far surpasses the show's debut outing:
""So, I play the Cluracan, and he's a really fun character to play. I had so much fun with him. Ann Skelly was brilliant as Nuala. There's not much I can say because I've never been on a project where they're so secretive, and they make you sign so many things. But what I can tell you is the world-building is brilliant. It's gone up a level even from series one. And all the additional cast is fantastic. Tom [Sturridge] is brilliant.""
In conclusion, he sought to reassure fans. These comments will certainly help push aside some apprehension among those worried about the saturation of story. "They have a great supporting cast, and it's dark, and it's entertaining, and it looks incredible," he said. "So, I hope you guys like it when it comes, but it's looking great."
The Sandman season 2 doesn't have a release date yet. We can expect it to premiere sometime in ealy 2025. It remains to be seen whether it's the final season, but it's certainly looking likely. Mark Netflix's Geeked Week on your calendars, because Tom Sturridge (Dream) and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Death) will be there to uncover a first look teaser!
