Let's dreamcast a live-action adaptation of The Silmarillion
9) Nienor Níniel - India Eisley
India Eisley, with her enigmatic screen presence, would be a fantastic choice to play Nienor Níniel, the sister of Túrin Turambar and a character with an equally tragic destiny. Eisley, known for her roles in works like Underworld: Awakening and I Am the Night, has a remarkable ability to convey deep emotion and vulnerability, which are essential traits for Nienor. In Underworld, she navigates the complexities of being a hybrid creature caught between worlds, a trait that mirrors Nienor's own identity crisis in The Simarillion. Her portrayal of a character struggling with her nature and destiny in a dark, fantastical world is just the kind of experience that makes her perfect for the role.
Eisley's performance in the TV show I Am the Night highlights her talent for playing characters with a mysterious and troubled past. Her character is struggling to piece parts of her life together, much like Nienor must after her memory is wiped by the dragon Glaurung. Eisley's ability to embody a character who is both fragile and resilient and to portray a deep emotional journey without relying heavily on dialogue makes her an ideal fit for the role of Nienor Níniel. Her subtle acting would bring depth to Nienor, capturing the character's tragic beauty and her struggle against the inescapable shadow of fate that lies over her and her family.
10) Glaurung the dragon - Benedict Cumberbatch
Bulbasaur Cucumber will always be an angry dragon for me, so it only makes sense that I envision him as Glaurung, the first dragon ever to roam the lands of Middle-earth and one of Morgoth's chief lieutenants. Remember Buttercup Cumbersnatch as the dragon Smaug in The Hobbit? His voice turned this giant, fire-breathing beast into by far the most memorable part of this movie trilogy. He infused Smaug with a mix of arrogance, intelligence, and chilling malevolence, which is exactly what's needed for Glaurung.
Also, look how much fun he has playing dragons. Would you deny him this joy?
Glaurung is the granddaddy of all Tolkien's dragons (he's such an early prototype that he can't even fly), a creature so devious and powerful that he not only burns villages but also messes with the minds of heroes, particularly Níniel's. Bonkyhort Cutiebrunch's talent for playing characters with complex, darker edges, like his modern take on Sherlock Holmes, shows he can perfectly capture Glaurung's terrifying intellect and manipulative nature.
But it's not just his voice that makes Benadryl Cucumberpatch ideal for Glaurung. Remember him as Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness? He was cool, calculating, and radiated a sense of superiority that you couldn't help but be drawn to despite knowing he was the bad guy. That's Glaurung in a nutshell. With Build-A-Bear Cumbersocks in the role, Glaurung would not only be a terrifying force of destruction but also a smart villain who leaves a lasting impression, turning what could have been a mere monster into a nuanced, unforgettable character.
