Dune: Part One is the most streamed movie of the week
By Dan Selcke
Dune: Part Two, which completes director Denis Villenueve's adaptation of Frank Herbert's seminal 1965 sci-fi novel Dune, opened in movie theaters the other week, and it is tearing it up. The movie has earned hundreds of millions of dollars with no signs of stopping. It's gotten rave reviews from critics, and studio Warner Bros. Discovery is hoping it can function as the cornerstone in a new Dune cinematic universe; a prequel series, Dune: Prophecy, is already on the way to Max.
Based on the reception to the new movie, this Duniverse thing might actually work. Not only is Dune: Part Two a triumph at the box office, but Dune: Part One has shot up the streaming charts on both Max and Netflix, with the Max version becoming the most streamed movie of the week.
That's according to Realgood Streaming, which tracks these sorts of things. Here's their list of the most-streamed movies for the week of Feb 29 through Mar 6:
- Dune: Part One (Max)
- Oppenheimer (Peacock)
- Past Lives (Paramount + with Showtime)
- Spaceman (Netflix)
- Napoleon (Apple TV+)
- The Holdovers (Peacock)
- Dune (Max)
- Killers of the Flower Moon (Apple TV+)
- Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (Max)
- All of Us Strangers (Hulu)
Executives at Warner Bros. Discovery are no doubt tickled pink over results like that. Oppenheimer just won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Dune is still placing above it.
Keep in mind that results from Reelgood Streaming aren't as authoritative as numbers from a place like Nielsen, but they still provide tasty food for thought. Reelgood also provided a list of the most-watched TV shows for the past week:
- Shōgun (Hulu)
- The Regime (Max)
- Resident Alien (Peacock)
- Constellation (Apple TV+)
- The Tourist (Netflix)
- Elsbeth (Paramount +)
- Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix)
- True Detective (Max)
- Masters of the Air (Apple TV+)
- Tracker (Paramount +)
We've been big fans of Shōgun here at WinterIsComing.net, so it's great to see to see that show doing well. It looks like it was a great week for movies and TV in general.
