Dune: Part Two is coming to theaters on March 1, and it's already smelling like the first huge hit of 2024. Frank Herbert's 1965 sci-fi novel Dune has been beloved for decades, and director Denis Villeneuve's 2021 movie Dune — which covered the first half of the books — was a faithful, exciting, contemplative adaptation that whetted fans appetites for more. Villenueve and company will give it to them with Dune: Part Two, which will bring this leg of the journey to a close.

Warner Bros. Discovery has just released a six-minute scene from the upcoming movie, and it looks fantastic. If you remember, the first film ended with noble scion Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) escaping into the desert with his mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) after their family was attacked by the vile members of House Harkonnen. The Harkonnens have left Paul and Jessica for dead, but they actually took refuge with the Fremen, the native people of the desert planet of Arrakis.

In order to win the trust of the Fremen, Paul must do something seemingly impossible: summon a massive sandworm and ride the thing around. That's what we see him doing in this scene. Watch below:

I cannot wait to see this on the big screen. It looks spectacular, and I love the sound design on something like the thumper, which is the rhythmic device Paul uses to call the sandworm while his Fremen mentor Stilgar (Javier Bardem) and love interest Chani (Zendaya) look on.

How the sandworm scene changed from the old Dune movie

If you're interested, the last big Dune movie was directed by David Lynch and came out in 1984, and it did the worm-mounting scene a little differently. In that move, Paul (Kyle MacLachlan) sort of rappels up the side of the worm, whereas in the new version Chalamet's Paul climbs up a tall dune and jumps onto the passing beast, which the Fremen worship as a religious figure known as Shai-Hulud.

This scene wasn't bad, either, but I'm eager to see what Villenueve and his team can do with 40 more years of technology under their belt. The cast is spectacular, too. In addition to the actors I already mentioned, Dune: Part Two will also feature Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Austin Butler, Stellan Skarsgård and Dave Bautista. It'll be an event!
