After four seasons, Evil is over. The horror/detective show moved from CBS to Paramount+ in 2021, where it improved. It could be the freedom of not being on network TV, different writers, or something else. Regardless of the reason, the show was better on Paramount+. Unfortunately, the series finale left a lot up in the air.
WARNING! Spoilers for the series finale of Evil ahead
First, there’s The Sixty. The demonic houses found a way to spread their evil around the world. They’re going to use the internet to send their brand of nastiness directly into the human brain. We don’t know if the plan works, what they’ll use, and how The Sixty feels about it. Some seemed to hate the idea, but that could be before they see the results.
Then there’s Kristen Bouchard and David Acosta. While they’re in Italy, Kristen notices that her son Timothy still has a bit of demon in him. He could still be the Anti-Christ. Instead of letting David know what’s happening, she says everything is fine. We don’t know if it’s because she’s protecting Timothy or being influenced by him.
As for David, there’s no way his presence stopped anything. The Catholic Church still has wickedness within its walls. It would have been nice to see how he stops or fails at stopping the upcoming apocalypse. And let’s not forget that Evil gave us an unresolved romance subplot. We're unaware of how Kristen and David's story ends. It's Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson all over again.
The only way any of these questions can be answered is with another season or a movie to wrap up the series, and I'm not the only one who thinks so:
If there’s anyone who knows horror, it’s the great Stephen King. After Evil ended, the author said it “smart, thought-provoking, occasionally VERY scary.” If Stephen King is saying this, then you know we need more. Sadly, Paramount Television Studios is shutting down. That means there’s no way Paramount will continue the show. Thankfully, there is good news. As mentioned earlier, this isn’t the first time Evil has moved.
AMC would be the best landing spot for Evil. They can provide a platform that allows it to be as terrifying, creepy, and weird as needed. The Walking Dead, Preacher, and Interview with a Vampire show what AMC can do with horror projects.
I'll end this with more good news. Fans don't need a long season or a happy ending. Just enough to tie things up. Four episodes will do. Hopefully, Stephen King’s thoughts and tweets are enough to bring the show back. If that happens, we'll be here to report it.
