Game of Thrones fans have a new favorite to play Aegon the Conqueror: Harry Goodwins

Since the end of Game of Thrones, HBO has kept the franchise alive with prequel shows like House of the Dragon. There's another prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, on the way. But the network also has a few other ideas that may or may not ever get turned into proper TV shows. One of them is a show about Aegon I Targaryen, known to history as Aegon the Conqueror, the man who first united the Seven Kingdoms alongside his sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya some 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

There's been talk of an Aegon show for a while now, but the rumors got an extra kick in the pants last week when it was revealed that HBO had hired writer Mattson Tomlin to work on the idea. Naturally, that led to discussion of who should play the most legendary Targaryen in the history of Westeros. Henry Cavill is always a popular (if misguided) choice, but he's far from the only candidate out there.

For instance, Drogerion on the House of the Dragon subreddit noticed that English model and actor Harry Goodwins had posted some artwork of Aegon the Conqueror to his Instagram. Now, before anybody draws any conclusions, I'm guessing this is less of instance of Goodwins letting slip that he's involved in the project and more one of him being told he'd make a good Aegon and posting a picture to let his followers weigh in. We don't have information one way or another to know for sure.

So would he make a good Aegon? The people in the subreddit certainly seem to think so. "if he IS the cast, he's way better than any fan cast i saw on this sub (based on his physical resemblance of other targs alone since i haven't seen his roles)," said androgynousmayflower. "enough of henry cavill simping. we found our aegon," commented MoritzIstKuhl. What do you think?

Harry Goodwins is best known as an international fashion model, although he's been getting into acting with roles in stuff like the vampire movie Hold Me Together and Guy Ritchie's upcoming Netflix series The Gentleman. We don't even know if the Aegon series is a go yet, so I think it's premature to crown him our next Targaryen king. But who knows?

Closer in time, new episodes of House of the Dragon will air on HBO and Max sometime this summer.
