House of the Dragon newcomer promises season 2 will be "so good"
By Dan Selcke
The second season of House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO and Max this year, and we're starting to get excited. The first teaser trailer was excellent, the new cast members are promising, and our need to see what happens next with Rhaenyra, Daemon and the rest of the highly dysfunctional, very violent Targaryen family has reached unbearable levels.
Helping spread the hype is new cast member Abubakar Salim, who plays Alyn of Hull (I'll explain who that is below, since it involves some spoilers). He posted a picture of himself alongside fellow new cast member Clinton Liberty (Addam of Hull) and veteran Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon). The three of them were doing ADR, which stands for automated dialogue replacement. That's when an actor goes into a booth and rerecords some of their lines so they better match what's happening onscreen.
"Just came out of an ADR session for #houseofthedragon Season 2 and yo... It's gonna be so good," wrote Salim. "I'm genuinely excited to be in on this. More to come soon. Watch this space."
It's always good to hear actors excited about what they're in, especially if they're in House of the Dragon. We have high hopes for season 2 and this is only encouraging us!
Who is Alyn of Hull in House of the Dragon season 2?
Okay, now it's time to get into some SPOILERS. It's notable that these three actors in particular — Salim, Liberty and Toussaint — are doing ADR together. Why? Read on.
House of the Dragon is based on the book Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin. In that book, we eventually learn that Corlys Velaryon — the head of the uber-wealthy House Velaryon, played by Steve Toussaint — has a couple of illegitimate sons: Alyn of Hull and Addam of Hull, played by Abubakar Salim and Clinton Liberty respectively. Neither Alyn nor Addam know their father and have more or less lived the lives of peasants on the island of Driftmark, although their mother Marilda of Hull has done pretty well for herself.
Alyn and Addam enter the story around the time Rhaenyra Targaryen is looking for new potential dragon-riders to help in her war effort against her brother King Aegon II Targaryen. Good candidates are so scarce that she and her team are willing to entertain the idea of...*smacks distaste out of lips*...non-nobles like Addam and Alyn coming on board so long as it helps Rhaenyra take the Iron Throne.
Alyn and Addam of Hull both have interesting parts to play going forward. We can expect some Velaryon family drama when House of the Dragon returns sometime this summer.
