House of the Dragon's Fabien Frankel (Criston Cole) lands next show on HBO
Similar to Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon has done a great job casting actors early in their careers for starring roles. That includes Fabien Frankel, who plays Criston Cole in the prequel series. The 29-year-old British actor had appeared in only three movies and two shows prior to portraying the bitter and whiny Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and he's just landed his next gig that'll no doubt further prove his talent. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Frankel will appear in a currently untitled crime show on HBO.
The series will follow employees of a law enforcement task force in Philadelphia, with Frankel playing "a key member" of the group named Anthony. It comes from Brad Ingelsby, who is best known for creating the Emmy Award-winning miniseries Mare of Easttown starring Kate Winslet. There's not too much to go off of yet in terms of synopsis, but the fact that Ingelsby's making the show has certainly piqued my interest.
Mark Ruffalo, Fabien Frankel, and others cast in new HBO crime show
Alongside Fabien, the series stars Mark Ruffalo as an FBI agent, with Alison Oliver, Tom Pelphrey, Emilia Jones, Thuso Mbedu, Raúl Castillo, Jamie McShane, and Sam Keeley also signed on. That's a pretty great cast; Ruffalo is, of course, fantastic, and I really enjoyed Jones' performance in 2022's Best Picture winner CODA. Pelphrey was awesome in Ozark, and I loved Oliver in this year's Saltburn. Needless to say, this untitled crime drama is officially on my radar!
As for Frankel's role in House of the Dragon, he'll be back in the second season, which is scheduled to premiere in the summer of 2024. If you thought his character was annoying in the first season, you're really in for it in the second. But no doubt the second season will be much bigger in scale and hopefully even better than the first. There's a lot of ground to cover as the Dance of the Dragons officially begins, and I'm sure viewers will be absolutely shocked at some of the events that'll go down. I can't wait.
Fingers crossed we'll get more news about this new HBO show soon, but in the meantime you can count on us at Winter is Coming to provide you with all the latest updates on House of the Dragon season 2.
